Young Thug Trial Halted in Fulton County

The Fulton County DAs office is dealing with another mess.

This one, however, has nothing to do with Fani Willis, but instead a possible misstep by a judge.

The trial of Young Thug has been indefinitely suspended while the actions of the presiding judge are investigated.

Time to Stop

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Ural Glanville announced that the case would be delayed pending a review by another judge on the allegations made against Glanville.

Glanville has been accused of holding an inappropriate meeting with prosecutors and an uncooperative witness behind closed doors to pressure the witness to testify.

In fact, defense attorney Brian Steel wound up being charged with contempt after he objected to the meeting.

The case had already taken roughly 10 months to select a jury, and the trial has been going on for about 100 days to this point.

Willis has been under fire for invoking the RICO statutes in this case as well as the Trump case.

Thug’s case was brought, in part, by citing lyrics in his song, which have been interpreted as showing a conspiracy to commit various crimes.

Like the Trump case, this is a career-maker for Willis, so the delay has to bother her, as she is unlikely to ever see the Trump case inside a courtroom and now the Thug case will probably bleed into next year.

Don Samuel, a veteran Atlanta criminal defense attorney, stated, “There’s nothing very attractive about the criminal justice system when viewed through the lens of this trial.”

Regarding the Young Thug case, Willis stated, “It does not matter what your notoriety is, what your fame is.

“If you come to Fulton County, Georgia, and you commit crimes, and certainly if those crimes are in furtherance of a street gang, then you are going to become a target and a focus of this district attorney’s office, and we are going to prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law.”

After announcing the delay of the case, Glanville noted that he had hoped the issue would be settled soon, but that all depends on how quickly the review of his actions is completed.

For now, Willis’ would-be kingmaker cases have been shelved.
