Ex-Obama adviser says Biden is 'not winning this race'

During an interview with CNN on Sunday night, David Axelrod, a former adviser to President Obama, made the argument that former President Trump is likely to defeat President Joe Biden in the upcoming election, as Fox News reported. 

Some members of the media and supporters of Biden have demanded that the president resign from the race because of his disturbing performance in the debates that took place in late June.

"There are certain immutable facts of life," Axelrod said in an interview with CNN while discussing Biden's age and leadership. "Those were painfully obvious on that debate stage. The president just … hasn't come to grips with it. He’s not winning this race."

"He seems not to grasp what the big concern is that people have," Axelrod said.

Previous Position

Axelrod, who had previously worked as the main campaign strategist for President Obama, stated that Biden is accustomed to fighting "his way back from political defeats and against the odds."

"So his psyche is that he can beat anybody and any long odds," the strategist said. "What he can’t beat is Father Time."

"And that’s really the concern here. It’s not about his record," Axelrod continued.

Demands for Biden

After his controversial performance in the debate, during which he dodged questions regarding his mental health and age, Democrats in Congress and political experts are demanding that Joe Biden withdraw from the presidential race.

If Biden were to decide to stand down, many of these people think that former presidential candidate Harris would be the greatest choice to succeed him.

On the other hand, Biden has made it clear that he has no intention of withdrawing from the race. In a letter sent to Democrats on Monday, he stated he is "firmly committed to staying in this race" and claimed that criticizing his credentials "only helps Trump and hurts us."

Concerns on Age

November will mark the 82nd birthday of Vice President Joe Biden, who is already the oldest president in the history of the United States.

"Donald Trump is an almost unprecedentedly flawed candidate in so many ways and represents, I do believe, as the president says, a real danger to democracy," Axelrod said. "But the one person that no one can outrun is Father Time."
