What the FBI is looking for in Trump shooter's phone and laptop

The eyes of the nation are still fixated on what the federal response to the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump will be in light of last weekend's bombshell event.

According to a report by Fox News, both current and former agents for the alphabet of agencies in Washington are focused on finding the answers to the burning questions circulating on the internet.

According to Scott Duffey, a former FBI agent, the FBI will conduct a comprehensive investigation into the contents of the shooter, Thomas Crooks' computer and mobile, as the news agency reported.

Preliminary reports indicated that the laptop would likey prove to be more fruitful than the cell phone, which was a surprise to many.

Partial Success

A former FBI special agent provided an inside perspective on the information that federal investigators are seeking after they decrypted the killer's laptop and cellphone in an effort to ascertain Thomas Crooks' motivation.

Duffey informed Fox News Digital that the FBI has been able to obtain the contents of Crooks' digital footprint since the FBI announced that it had successfully unlocked his electronics.

"The FBI's cellular analysis surveillance team would be able to look through his phone, be able to download what is on there through software that they have and through cell tower information," he said.

"Since this is a rural area, did he leave that area? Was he venturing out or communicating with anybody?" Duffey asked. "They will be able to piece together his whereabouts."

Praise for the Agency

As far as the FBI's abilities are concerned, Duffey claims they are "second to none" and promises that the agency will search Crooks' electronics extensively.

"They're going to be looking for who, if anyone, he was in contact with," he said. "And if not in contact with anyone, then gather information about what he was reviewing, reading, and researching."

Duffey stated that the FBI would be looking into the level of expertise that the Crooks might have had in making bombs.

The FBI had previously stated that 20-year-old Crooks possessed explosives in his vehicle, which was discovered parked near the Pennsylvania rally, as well as devices to make bombs at his residence.

On the Explosives

"How far advanced was he in those devices? So were they improvised devices that were already ready to go, or was it materials that, for whatever reason, was just to throw dogs off and whatnot?" the former agent questioned.

"And they [the FBI] will want to know how long he had been doing this," Duffey said.

"The research that led into the ultimate act of taking a rifle up on top of a rooftop and then firing it into a crowd and ultimately towards the former President of the United States, Donald Trump."
