Walz Ties to China Raise Concerns Among Republicans

Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’ VP selection, is taking hits from all sides right now.

His military record is being questioned, his lack of financial investments has created concerns, his mismanagement of COVID funding is bothersome, but that is not all.

Now, Walz’s long history with China is coming up, and both sides of the aisle are spinning this narrative in their favor.

Walz and China

I am not in the business of spreading misinformation, so I am going to give you the details, tell you my opinion, and let you make the final call here.

Walz’s history with China goes back to 1989, the same year as the Tiananmen Square massacre, when Walz was teaching English to Chinese students.

He has also reportedly vacationed there many times, including his honeymoon, and Walz is fluent in Chinese.

Steve Bannon protégé, Natalie Winters, also found a posting for an event where Walz spoke at the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC)…

Walz has often touted the trade agreement between China and the United States, but that in and of itself is not really an issue.

After all, Donald Trump has branded products that were made in China, as does Ivanka Trump, so be careful about throwing stones on this particular front.

While serving in Congress, Walz was on the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, which looks at human rights violations in China.

What bothers me most about Walz, however, is that he does not necessarily see China as an adversary.

When Walz returned from China, he stated, “There was no anti-American feeling whatsoever. America is ‘it’ in the eyes of the Chinese. Many of the students want to come to America to study. They don’t feel there is much opportunity for them in China.”

He later added, “I’ve lived in China, and as I’ve said, I’ve been there about 30 times … I don’t fall into the category that China necessarily needs to be an adversarial relationship. I totally disagree.”

That is a problem for me because China has literally owned the Biden administration, and I just cannot fathom kissing up to China for another four or eight years if Harris wins this election.

To be honest, his opinions on China remind me of Bernie Sanders’ comments regarding Cuba, and you guys all know how I feel about Bernie.

Is he a communist sympathizer? I can see how that argument can be made, and he is definitely scary in terms of having so much power and being one step away from the big chair.

Sadly, however, I don’t think most Americans really care about global politics, so these attacks could lose voters' interest.

For me, continue to attack him on the domestic front and this military record, which is where I believe will hit home with more people.

I am not saying drop the China angle because there are definitely some concerns for me, but I just don’t think we can make it front and center to impact the election to the point that it is an issue that will flip the scales.
