Biden Makes Emergency Appeal to Supreme Court Over Debt Relief Plan

One of Joe Biden’s latest efforts to install student loan relief, the Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan, is facing challenges.

The plan has been put on hold due to lower court rulings.

Biden is now asking the Supreme Court to honor an emergency appeal to reinstate the plan.

Biden’s initial plan was challenged by several red states, with the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling in favor of the plaintiffs, at least temporarily.

An emergency injunction was placed against the plan, blocking Biden from giving away more taxpayer money to student loan borrowers.

Additionally, Alaska, South Carolina, and Texas have asked the Supreme Court to block specific aspects of the plan, which is the focus of the current emergency appeal by Biden.

That challenge was made in mid-July, but the court has yet to act on it.

U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar argued, “The rule is a straightforward exercise of the Department’s express statutory authority to set the parameters of income-contingent repayment plans — just as it has done for three decades.”

The Supreme Court ruled previously that Biden’s forgiveness plan was not within his purview because of the sheer monetary value of the order.

SCOTUS ruled that with legislation of this financial magnitude, it was an issue that needed to be legislated by Congress, not an executive order.

A Penn study estimated that the cost of the plan over 10 years would cost taxpayers about $475 billion, so you can see why the court would prefer this be legislated.

When that was blocked, Biden started these piecemeal orders to chip away at the debt piece by piece, and he has been successful at it until now.

The GOP believes this is nothing more than Biden buying votes, and I agree.

They borrowed the money; they should have to pay it back just like we all did.

It is simply unfair to the American taxpayer to be hit with this burden.
