DOJ Wants to Block AZ from Requiring Proof of Citizenship for Election

During a recent rally for Kamala Harris, the invitations were non-transferrable.

So, the only way to get into the event was to have ID.

Yet Biden’s DOJ is now challenging an Arizona Voter ID law that would require all voters to show proof of citizenship to cast their votes.

Common Sense

With Arizona being a battleground state, you better believe that the Republicans want election laws enforced, but Biden does not see it that way.

Currently, in order to register to vote in Arizona, you must show proof of citizenship (DPOC) in order to be registered in the state system.

If you are filling a mail-in ballot, you must also provide that proof with the ballot.

For most people, this is no big deal. You have your social security card, your state ID or license, etc.

A lower court blocked the new rule from taking effect, so the RNC and Arizona’s GOP have filed an emergency application with the Supreme Court to have the order stayed and allow the rule to be in effect for the 2024 election.

U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar, in turn, filed a brief stating that the applicants are “not entitled to stay.”

Prelogar continued that “judicial intervention at this stage would undermine the orderly administration of the election, risking the disfranchisement of thousands of voters who have already registered to vote using the federal form.”

Democrats have claimed the new rule would be “destabilizing” the state in terms of election outcomes.

The problem for Republicans is that Arizona falls under Justice Elana Kagan, so I am not expecting a positive outcome.

Who knew that proving you are legally able to vote would ever be a point of contention in this state? And you really have to wonder why Democrats are so fiercely opposed to it.
