Obama’s National Security Adviser Goes Nuclear After WaPo Snubs Harris
Susan Rice is about as deeply embedded in the Democrat Party as one could be.
The woman who some believe is Obama’s eyes and ears inside the Biden administration lost it, however, after the Washington Post refused to endorse Kamala Harris in the election.
Struggling with Endorsements
In almost every presidential election, you can count on left-leaning publications and unions to endorse the Democrat candidate in the race. That, however, is not happening this time around. Harris has been snubbed by several major unions and a handful of publications with a history of endorsing Democrats.
This all got started when the Teamsters decided to sit out the election. Union boss Sean M. O’Brien announced the snub, stating, “Unfortunately, neither major candidate was able to make serious commitments to our union to ensure the interests of working people are always put before Big Business. We sought commitments from both Trump and Harris not to interfere in critical union campaigns or core Teamsters industries — and to honor our members’ right to strike — but were unable to secure those pledges.”
Then, the International Association of Fire Fighters announced that membership had voted and decided by 1.2% against endorsing a candidate. General President Edward Kelly stated, “The IAFF Executive Board determined that we are better able to advocate for our members and make progress on the issues that matter to them if we, as a union, are standing shoulder-to-shoulder. This decision, which we took very seriously, is the best way to preserve and strengthen our unity.”
Then came the snub by the LA Times, Harris’ hometown newspaper. There were plenty of theories about why this happened, but Nika, the daughter of owner Patrick Soon-Shiong, explained why the paper declined to endorse Harris this weekend.
Soon-Shiong explained, “Our family made the joint decision not to endorse a Presidential candidate. This was the first and only time I have been involved in the process. As a citizen of a country openly financing genocide, and as a family that experienced South African Apartheid, the endorsement was an opportunity to repudiate justifications for the widespread targeting of journalists and ongoing war on children.”
Washington Post Declines to Endorse Harris
The Washington Post leans heavily left but not so far left that it was willing to endorse Harris in this election. Last week, the paper announced that it would also sit out this election.
Washington Post CEO William Lewis announced, “We recognize that this will be read in a range of ways, including as a tacit endorsement of one candidate, or as a condemnation of another, or as an abdication of responsibility. That is inevitable.
“We don’t see it that way. We see it as consistent with the values The Post has always stood for and what we hope for in a leader: character and courage in service to the American ethic, veneration for the rule of law, and respect for human freedom in all its aspects.”
Meltdown Over WaPo Sitting Out Election
It did not take long for the outrage to flare up over WaPo being the latest to sit out the election rather than endorse Trump. Among those who were most outraged was Susan Rice, who had been in DC since the Clinton administration, having served as his Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs. She was also an ambassador during the Obama administration before serving as Obama’s National Security Adviser. She was then believed to be Obama’s inside source during the Biden administration, serving as Joe’s Director of the Domestic Policy Council.
Rice went ballistic, posting on X, “As a DC native and lifelong subscriber to the Post, I’m disgusted. You have lost us.” She was not done, however, as several minutes later, she posted, “So much for ‘Democracy Dies in Darkness.' This is the most hypocritical, chicken shit move from a publication that is supposed to hold people in power to account.” As staff started sounding off, Rice wanted to see action, not just words.
That action took place on Friday, as numerous staffers expressed outrage and announced they were leaving the publication, including Brookings Institute Senior Fellow Robert Kagan, who resigned as the paper’s editor-at-large. Reports of other workers, including numerous writers, have also reportedly resigned, and there are numerous calls for boycotts of subscribers. I just cannot help but shake my head at how the party of diversity and unity always has a fit when things do not go their way. It’s only love and hugs as long as you follow their way. When you decide to swim upstream, they unleash everything they have against you.
