House Passes Budget Without Funding for Children Transition Treatments
The House has passed a funding bill, but I can tell you right now that it will get rejected by the Senate.
The bill bans payments for transition treatments for military children, something the Democrats will never go for.
Transgenders by the Numbers
As of June, there are about 1.3 million active military, with another 800,000 serving in the Reserves.
In all of the United States, there are roughly 1.6 million (0.6%) of the overall population suffering from gender dysphoria.
The number of transgender children in military families is far below the national average, with roughly 6,000 service member children being treated for gender dysphoria.
Treatment, however, can be pricey, and with the GOP focusing on protecting children, the legislation that the House passed did not include transgender medical treatments for these children as a covered benefit.
The Budget
The Pentagon already has the largest budget of any one agency in the country, but Speaker Johnson (R-LA) was hoping to keep that down a little bit.
In his legislation, it states that "medical interventions for the treatment of gender dysphoria that could result in sterilization may not be provided to a child under the age of 18.”
Johnson added, "Our men and women in uniform should know their first obligation is protecting our nation, not woke ideology.”
Next term, any legislation that would be added to the taxpayer tab for gender transition will never have a chance, so Democrats know they have to fight this now, or they will never win this battle.
The Reaction
To that point, the Democrat reaction to the legislation was just as we would expect, with Dems using hateful rhetoric that the truth is that the GOP is trying to allow children to grow up before making such a life-altering decision.
United Nations' Human Rights Council (HRC) was livid over the legislation, stating, “This cruel and hateful bill suddenly strips away access to medical care for families that members of our armed forces are counting on, and it could force service members to choose between staying in the military or providing health care for their children.”
Numerous House Democrats expressed their outrage over the legislation, but shockingly, House Minority Leader Jeffries (D-N.Y.) did not issue the order for Democrats to vote down the legislation, leaving it up to the members to decide.
If I am wrong about this, so be it, but I just do not understand the rush of any parent supporting a child wanting to change their gender when they do not even allow that child to decide what they are having for dinner on their own. Let them grow up, then they can make the decision as an adult… that is all we are asking for here.
