Manchin Says Biden Went ‘Insane’ Over American Rescue Plan
Senator Joe Manchin (I-W.V.) has always presented himself as a resister in the Democrat Party, but that is not really the case.
Manchin pushed back several times in the early days of the Biden administration, Manchin always caved, and now we are getting some insight as to why.
American Rescue Plan
When Biden introduced the American rescue plan, he sold it as a plan that would help Americans recover from the COVID pandemic.
The plan stated, “The American Rescue Plan devotes about $1 trillion towards building a bridge to economic recovery for working families. All told, a single parent with one young child making the minimum wage could see her income increase from the equivalent of $7.25 to around $11 per hour.”
Manchin, at the time, had stated that he could not get behind the plan, stating, "If I can't go home and explain it to the people of West Virginia, I can't vote for, and I cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation. I just can't. I've tried everything humanly possible. I just can't get there."
When he was asked at the time if it was a firm no of he was waffling, he responded, "This is a no on this legislation. I've tried everything I know how to do, and the president has worked diligently. He's been wonderful to work with."
Manchin Explains
Manchin was talking tough at the time the legislation was introduced, but he caved, just like he always does in the end.
If you look at his voting record, even when Biden was making a big stink about legislation, he usually caved when it came time to vote for the legislation.
Manchin explained why he caved, stating, “I was going to kill the whole bill. Then the president went completely insane on me.”
As we now know, Manchin eventually caved and broke another promise by helping Democrats use reconciliation to pass the bill.
Manchin Leaves the Party
Even though Manchin always winds up caving, Democrats started to give Manchin a hard time as the term moved forward.
Manchin finally decided to leave the party, stating, “To stay true to myself and remain committed to put country before party, I have decided to register as an independent with no party affiliation and continue to fight for America’s sensible majority.”
He said that, yet he continued to caucus with Democrats and continued to support Democrat legislation.
I have seen many Republicans say they would welcome Manchin to come over to the GOP, but this dude is a snake in the grass that cannot be trusted. I will be glad to see him walk away from politics.
