Top Dem Senators Pushing Back on Hunter Biden Pardon
After four years of telling the American people he would not pardon Hunter Biden, Joe Biden went back on his word.
I am sure he thought his entire party would back him on this decision, but that is far from the case.
Joe Pardons Hunter
Biden blamed Republicans for the pardon, stating, “The charges in his cases came about only after several of my political opponents in Congress instigated them to attack me and oppose my election.”
Joe Biden was in office when the charges were announced, so he's basically accusing his DOJ of working politically against him. He also referenced a “carefully negotiated plea deal,” which was a complete and utter joke meant to protect the Biden family, not hold him accountable in any way.
Biden went on to say that the GOP was trying to “break” Hunter to ruin his sobriety, but this is again nothing more than a twisting of the facts.
Then, after expressing his belief in the justice system, Biden more or less stated they got it wrong this time, concluding, “I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision.”
Bernie Sanders Speaks Out
I have to say, as much as Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) speaks out about government corruption, it was not exactly a surprise to see him push back against this pardon.
Sanders understood why Biden did it, but he also noted that it was a very bad look, especially when Trump had already expressed that he was likely to pardon Hunter after taking office.
Sanders stated, "When you have his opponents going after his family as a father, as a parent, I think we can all understand Biden trying to protect his, his son and his family.
"On the other hand, I think the precedent being set is kind of a dangerous one. It was a very wide open pardon, which could, under different circumstances, lead to problems in terms of future presidents."
Klobuchar Speaks Out
Sanders was far from alone, as Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) has spoken against it. And this comes while some Democrats and Republicans are now recommending we look at dialing down presidential pardon powers.
When Klobuchar was asked about a specific pardon for a judge who was involved in a “cash for kids” scheme, she responded, “I did not like that one. Nope.”
Then she really went off, stating, “There’s also a man in Duluth that was running a major drug house, basically, and had all this money under his bathroom tiles was also commuted. So the way I look at is this- I also didn’t agree with the pardon of the president’s son.”
Some of Biden’s other pardons and commutations involved a corrupt political official who nearly broke a small town, drug offenders, including people linked to cartels, and a slew of others, claiming that everyone deserves a second chance. Sadly, there is going to be more of this to come as Biden winds down his presidency.
