Trump Says Biden Selling Border Wall Materials ‘Almost a Criminal Act’

As soon as Joe Biden came into office, he halted the construction of Donald Trump’s border wall.

There are still unused materials in several states, and reports recently surfaced that Biden is very quietly trying to sell those supplies off before Trump takes office.

Trump Pushes Back

When Donald Trump first heard of the sell-off, he was fuming, stating, “I’m asking today, Joe Biden to please stop selling the wall. We’re going to use that to create a strong barrier.

“It’s very expensive, and now it’s about double the price of what it would have been six years ago, and the administration is trying to sell it for five cents on the dollar, knowing that we’re getting ready to put it up.”

Trump continued, “It’s almost a criminal act. They know we’re going to use it, and if we don’t have it, we’re going to have to rebuild it, and it will cost double what it cost years ago, and that’s hundreds of millions of dollars.”

Cotton Demands Receipts

When reports surfaced about the sale of the materials, Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) was among the first to call for accountability.

Cotton wrote a letter to Secretary of Defense Austin on the matter, writing, "I write to demand full accountability and transparency from the Department of Defense about its role in the disposal of excess border wall materials from the first Trump administration.”

The GOP has been up in arms that the supplies were reportedly being sold as scrap, and they were only charging buyers pennies on the dollar for the supplies.

To make matters worse, the areas where the supplies were reportedly being sold were some of the busiest areas of the border.

In Reality…

Very early in the process, Texas announced that if Biden was selling the supplies cheap, it would step in and buy as much of them as possible to help Trump. As it turns out, what Biden appears to be selling off is “mostly junk, with most panels covered in concrete and rust," according to Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick. He further states that the materials were so bad, it was not worth the cost of shipping them back to Texas from Arizona.

As far as the sales go, the Department of Defense was required to sell the parts via Section 2890 of the National Defense Authorization Act, which required the DoD to transfer or donate all “covered materials” that were purchased for the border wall between 2017 and 2022.

The DoD reportedly transferred roughly 60% of the materials on hand, then sold the remaining 40%, with the DoD commenting, “The material currently being sold through GovPlanet online auctions no longer belongs to the U.S. Government, and DoD has no legal authority to recall the material or stop further resale of material it no longer owns.”

So, here is my question… if all this was covered in a piece of legislation passed in Congress, with GOP support, how come Cotton and Trump did not know about it, especially Cotton? This, my friends, is the problem with massive legislation that passes in our government, and even the people passing it have no idea what they are passing.
