Dems Make Move Against Electoral College in Waning Days of Biden Administration

There are just a few days left before Christmas break, so when Congress comes back into session, it will be all the new players.

So, with Dems about to lose control, they are now making one more big push to have the Electoral College abolished.

The Electoral College

Electors are issued to every state based on the census and their representation in Congress.

Every state has two Senators and a representative number of House appointments based on the census.

If you look at the electors for every state, it matches the number of House and Senate members representing that state.

Our Founders set up the system to ensure every state had a voice in the election and that no one state or any group of highly populated states would dominate the outcome of a presidential election.

Time to Abandon the EC

Sens. Brian Schatz (D-HI), Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Peter Welch (D-VT) are leading this last-second push to have the EC abandoned.

Schatz stated, “In an election, the person who gets the most votes should win. It’s that simple.

“No one’s vote should count for more based on where they live. The Electoral College is outdated and it’s undemocratic. It’s time to end it.”

Durbin added, “In 2000, before the general election, I introduced a bipartisan resolution to amend the Constitution and abolish the electoral college. I still believe today that it’s time to retire this 18th century invention.”

Not Happening

In order for this to work, they would have to have Republicans in the House on board, and that simply is not going to happen.

Dems are upset because two times in the last two decades, the GOP won a general election where it did not win the popular vote. But when you looked at those results, the difference was because of the massive wins by Dems in states like California and New York.

As I have stated in other reports, if you abandon the Electoral College and only use the popular vote, you allow only a small group of states to dictate the election outcome. For all intents and purposes, we could have California, Florida, New York, and Texas vote and call it a day.

This is exactly what our Framers and Founders were trying to prevent when they set this country up, showing their brilliance was far before their time. Sorry, Dems, but the EC stays.
