Mayor Adams Administration Rocked by New Sex Scandal
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been under fire for corruption allegations since he took office.
Now, however, his administration is being rocked by sexual misconduct allegations that could finally spell the end of him.
Adams Charged
In September, after months of speculation, NYC Mayor Eric Adams was charged with bribery and campaign finance violations.
In part, U.S. Attorney Damian William stated, “As alleged, Mayor Adams abused his position as this City’s highest elected official, and before that as Brooklyn Borough President, to take bribes and solicit illegal campaign contributions.
“By allegedly taking improper and illegal benefits from foreign nationals—including to allow a Manhattan skyscraper to open without a fire inspection—Adams put the interests of his benefactors, including a foreign official, above those of his constituents. This Office and our partners at the FBI and DOI will continue to pursue corruption anywhere in this City, especially when that corruption takes the form of illegal foreign influence on our democratic system.”
Adams has claimed that, like Trump, the DOJ has been weaponized against him because he pushed back against Biden’s border policies.
Sex for Overtime Allegations
Last week, a report broke that a police officer in the NYPD had resigned after her shocking amount of overtime had been scrutinized.
The officer in question, Lt. Quathisha Epps, then alleged that Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey had been offering overtime pay for sex.
Last year, Epps reported a salary of over $400,000, roughly half of which was overtime.
Maddrey has since resigned, and an investigation into the allegations has been launched. NYPD Internal Affairs Chief Miguel Iglesias has also been forced to resign due to the scandal.
Adams Comments
Maddrey and Adams are very close friends, and this is yet another smudge on the record of Adams as Mayor.
When the allegations were made, Adams told reporters, “The police commissioner is doing a full review of all personnel, but she’s also doing a full review of this issue, and it would just be inappropriate for me to go into the detail of these allegations, but it’s currently under review.
“I have a great deal of faith and the city has a great deal of faith in Police Commissioner Tisch, she’s conducting her review internally, and we’ll make the determination on how we’re moving forward with these allegations.”
Adams also had one of his top advisers indicted after she resigned, having been accused of using her office to grant favors in exchange for a loan to her son to purchase a sports car. To me, Adams and his entire inner circle seem about as corrupt as they can be, yet Donald Trump has expressed an interest in pardoning Adams if he is convicted, claiming he has been “treated badly” by the Department of Justice. He may want to rethink that.
