Putin Agrees Ukraine Conflict Would Never Have Happened with Trump in Office

On February 24, 2022, Russia did the unthinkable by invading Ukraine.

It took Donald Trump about 10 seconds to say this would have never happened if he were still in the White House, which Democrats and the media mocked, yet Russian President Vladimir Putin just backed Trump’s narrative.

Russia Invades Ukraine

The invasion in February 2022 was the culmination of hostilities that had been developing going back to 2014.

As of this report, Russia is now occupying about 20% of Ukraine, land that Putin will likely not give up in any peace deal.

Between displacements and Ukrainians that have fled the country, roughly 16 million have been impacted, as well as tens of thousands of Ukrainians who have died in the conflict. That means that roughly half the population of the country has been impacted in one way or another.

Both sides have stated they are willing to come to the table with Trump now in office, but this will not be an easy negotiation.

Trump Says It Never Would Have Happened

Just days after Russia invaded Ukraine, Donald Trump started to lob bombs at the Biden administration over the conflict.

On February 26, 2022, Trump stated, “Under our administration Russia respected America just like every other country respected America, but now Joe Biden is seen as weak. As everyone understands, this horrific disaster would never have happened if our election was not rigged and if I was the president.”

Trump later added, “Putin is playing Biden like a drum and it’s not a pretty thing.” He continued, “We are laughingstock all over the world today.”

Trump then touted his record in office compared to other presidents, concluding, “He understood me and he understood that I didn’t play games. He did have an affinity for Ukraine and I said ‘never let it happen.’”

Putin Agrees

When Trump made his comments, numerous outlets pushed back, with The Hill publishing a piece at the time that was headlined, “No, Trump would not have stopped Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.”

Well, Putin just poured water on that narrative, stating, “We always had a business-like, pragmatic but also trusting relationship with the current U.S. president.

“I couldn’t disagree with him that if he had been president, if they hadn’t stolen victory from him in 2020, the crisis that emerged in Ukraine in 2022 could have been avoided.”

This is two things… Putin stroking Trump’s ego regarding the 2020 election, as well as admitting that the two administrations were apples and oranges. While I do not trust Putin, I have to agree that had Trump been in office, Putin never would have made that move for fear of what Trump would have been willing to do to stop the invasion.
