David Hogg elected as DNC Vice Chair

Democrats have clearly not learned a lesson from the 2024 election.

Yet again, they have elected an activist to office, this time being David Hogg, the Parkland shooting survivor turned gun-control activist.

Surviving the Shooting

Nobody here has discounted the trauma Hogg has gone through in his life, as the Parkland shooting is one of the most horrific mass shootings this country has ever seen.

On February 14, 2018, Nikolas Cruz opened fire at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL. A total of 17 students were killed, and another 17 were injured during the attack.

The shooter, Cruz, managed to walk out of the school with other students who were fleeing the scene, but he was arrested less than two hours later.

Again, I understand why Hogg immediately became an anti-gun activist, but up until now, he has avoided entering the political world.

Hogg Puts His Name in the Hat

Hogg has enjoyed the media spotlight after the tragedy and is arguably now the most famous survivor of that attack. He used that fame to launch a bid for DNC leadership in December.

Hogg announced that he was going to run for vice chair of the Democrat National Committee, hoping to lure back the Democrat voters who abandoned the party for Trump in the 2024 election.

In announcing his candidacy, Hogg stated, “Moving forward, we must have a renewed focus on our youth outreach in all states and territories to rebuild our coalition after the massive shift to the right among young voters this election.”

He was very critical of the party for its failed efforts in the election, adding, "You raised an absurd amount of money. This was our race to [win], and we lost it. And it's time to really peel back the curtain and say 'OK, what did we do wrong?' instead of just protecting the consultants that brought us into this place in the first place.”

Hogg Wins

Democrats added another activist to the roster when it was announced that Hogg had secured 214.5 votes in a successful campaign for DNC vice chair. Hogg’s win was likely a direct result of Barron Trump's impact on the 2024 election, convincing his father that he needed to embrace podcasts to draw in younger voters.

During his victory speech, Hogg stated, “Who’s ready to take the fight to the Republicans and win this thing? Are you guys ready to fight? It’s been a long day, but guess what? We have a long road ahead. Let’s go and kick some a**.

“Let’s go win our young people back, and let’s stop sending just our thoughts and prayers to address gun violence, and do something. Are you ready to do that? Because together, we can make school shooter drills history, and not headlines. Are you ready to do that?”

This, to me, is the wrong direction for Democrats to go. Clearly, gun control is a major platform issue for Democrats, but that is likely to be the only focus that Hogg has moving forward, when issues such as immigration and inflation are what clearly mattered to voters in this past election. Once again, Democrats cannot see past their noses to embrace what the people of this country want, and I can see this being a complete and utter disaster for Democrats unless Hogg changes his focus to the bigger issues and away from his passion.
