Trump administration putting burden of supporting Ukraine on Europe

President Donald Trump is working on resolving the war between Ukraine and Russia and it appears that he is seeking to force a peace deal by laying down serious ultimatums.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that the U.S. will no longer be providing the majority of aid to Ukraine and made it clear that this war is Europe's problem and that European countries must step up and provide the majority of Ukraine's support.

Hegseth stated that America will "no longer tolerate an imbalanced relationship" where we are expected to provide billions in aid while European countries provide much less support.

Hegseth made it clear that moving forward, "Europe must provide the overwhelming share of future lethal and non-lethal aid to Ukraine."

The United States has protected Europe since the end of WWII but under Trump, those days are over. The United States has other priorities at home and there is no sense in spending billions abroad when we need to spend billions at home.

Ukraine Must Sue For Peace

With Trump shutting down the slush funds that have allowed Europe to grow rich off the American taxpayers, serious changes will need to be made.

Trump revealed on Wednesday that he has had extensive talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on a peace deal in Ukraine as Trump wants to stop the senseless killing that has claimed the lives of thousands of soldiers.

Trump took to social media to say, "We have also agreed to have our respective teams start negotiations immediately, and we will begin by calling President Zelenskiy, of Ukraine, to inform him of the conversation, something which I will be doing right now."

By the sounds of things, Ukraine isn't being given many options and will be forced into a compromise crafted by the Trump administration.

Hegseth confirmed some of those ultimatums with one being that Ukraine 'must start by recognizing that returning to Ukraine's pre-2014 borders is an unrealistic objective."

Ukraine wants to return to 2014 borders but they simply cannot retake that land and it's not worth funding their war to do it. Furthermore, Trump does not want Ukraine in NATO as that is a non-negotiable for Russia and "encourages dependency."

America First

Trump has recognized that the idealism of supporting Ukraine doesn't justify the unspeakable expenses of funding a stalemate war that has turned into a meatgrinder that has caused unspeakable casualties.

The only way Ukraine will be able to continue its war is if its European neighbors step up to the plate and actually begin spending money on their own defense.

Otherwise, Ukraine will have to accept no U.S. troops in Ukraine, no NATO membership, and no return to 2014 borders. In many ways, this situation would be a win for Russia, but at extreme cost.

Russia has lost an estimated one million men and is weaker than ever as the world witnessed the Russian military fail utterly to conquer a significantly weaker country. However, giving Russia small wins does no damage to American interests while ending a war that has cost taxpayers billions.
