Dolly Parton partners with liberal singer Sabrina Carpenter

Dolly Parton has long been a favorite for conservatives, but her attractiveness to hardcore MAGA may have just taken a hit.  

Parton recently paired up with Sabrina Carpenter for a duet, which may not sit well with MAGA considering some of the things she has said about and against Donald Trump.  

No Medal for Me 

Parton had some Trump supporters upset when she turned down the Presidential Medal of Freedom during the Trump administration, but she did try to explain why.  

At the time she was offered the award, her husband was ill, and Parton did not want to leave his side. This put her in a pickle when she was offered the award again during the Biden administration.  

She explained, "I got offered the freedom award from the Trump administration. I couldn't accept it because my husband was ill. Then they asked me again about it and I wouldn't travel because of Covid."

When Biden offered her the award, she knew what would happen if she took it, explaining, "Now I feel like if I take it, it'll be doing politics, so I'm not so sure." 

Carpenter Creates Waves After Election 

Not long after Trump was elected, Carpenter had a scheduled concert, where she chose to make a political statement instead of entertaining her fans.  

She stated, “For everybody in here to come here to escape, I hope we can be a moment of peace for you and a moment of safety. Sorry about our country.” 

“To the women in here, I love you so so so so so much. I really hope for the rest of this night that you can enjoy yourselves because you absolutely deserve it, but we just love you, so thank you for being here tonight.” 

It always makes me laugh that these people seem to forget there are likely conservatives there as well, and we all know what happens to them if they boo or don’t applaud the statement... the crowd turns on them. So, how about just keeping your mouth shut and giving the people what they came there for... entertainment?  

New Partnership for Dolly 

While Dolly has flirted with that line a few times in her career, she has never crossed it, which is why many fans were surprised when she partnered with Carpenter.  

In one line, Carpenter switched up her lyrics a bit from the original. The line was supposed to read, “I beg you, don’t embarrass me, like the others,” but Carpenter changed it to, “I beg you, don’t embarrass me, mother fu**er.” 

Dolly tried to joke about the lyrics on social media, telling Carpenter she had a dirty mouth, but that is not what would get her in trouble with MAGA. It is the fact she partnered with such an outspoken critic of Trump that will draw some ire.  

Now, I have never been one to make a big deal out of something like this, but I would imagine diehard MAGA fans are a bit upset. Time will tell if it will be enough to hold it against Dolly or if she will remain a country favorite despite what some are calling a misstep by the country-singing legend.
