USA hockey game versus Canada has 3 fights to start game
My regular readers know I am a HUGE hockey fan, so I could not resist the unbelievable start to the game between the USA and Canada in the 4 Nations Face Off tournament.
Team USA apparently had enough of Canadian fans booing our National Anthem, so they went full thug on Team Canada to start their game.
Trump Announces Tariffs
Trump demanded our neighbors do their part to help control illegal immigration, and he warned Canada and Mexico that if they did not change their ways, he would impose sweeping 25% tariffs on goods coming into the country.
The White House announced, “Until the crisis is alleviated, President Donald J. Trump is implementing a 25% additional tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10% additional tariff on imports from China. Energy resources from Canada will have a lower 10% tariff.”
It continued, “President Trump is taking bold action to hold Mexico, Canada, and China accountable to their promises of halting illegal immigration and stopping poisonous fentanyl and other drugs from flowing into our country.”
This, of course, created outrage among Democrats, believing that Trump was creating an unnecessary trade war with Mexico and Canada, but it worked.
Canada Responds
At first, the response by Canada was to puff out its chest, threatening its own set of tariffs against US goods, but most people do not realize that Canada already has far stricter policies on this front than the United States.
For instance, from a personal standpoint, the United States charges duties for goods over $800 brought back from Canada after a trip exceeding 48 hours and $200 in goods for trips under 48 hours. Canada charges duties on goods worth $160 after trips between 24 and 48 hours and extends that to $640 for trips over 48 hours. (To read the full duties and tax policy, click here.)
It did not take Canada very long to realize it needs us more than we need them, with Prime Minister Trudeau soon announcing a more than $1 billion plan to address the issues at the border.
That, however, did not stop the meltdown by Canadians and small business, many of whom pulled American products off their shelves, which was completely idiotic. They had already bought the products, so they were only hurting their bottom line.
Drop the Gloves
This has spilled over into sports, with Canadian fans showing complete and utter disrespect for our National Anthem when Team USA and Team Canada faced off against each other.
The United States players took it personally, and they decided to defend the United States the way they would protect a star player in a game... they dropped the gloves.
Within the first few seconds of the game, there were three fights, with the United States winning two of them. The Tkachuk brothers dominated their fights, but Canada appeared to get the better of it in the Miller-Parayko fight...
If you are not a hockey fan, this is unheard of in international play, so Team USA was clearly out to make a point. As I am writing this report, Team Canada is blowing out Team Finland, so it looks like we could have a round 2 of Team USA vs Team Canada in Thursday night’s championship game.
