Ben Shapiro calls on Trump to pardon Derek Chauvin

Conservative pundit Ben Shapiro just shook a tree that will have liberals up in arms, of that I have no doubt.

Shapiro just announced that he would like to see Donald Trump pardon Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis Police Officer charged with the murder of George Floyd.

George Floyd

George Floyd was a 46-year-old black male who was being detained for having used a counterfeit bill at a local store in Minneapolis.

Chauvin was among the police officers present, having been the one to put his knee on Floyd’s neck while he was being taken into custody.

Floyd had been hysterical during the arrest, which is what eventually led to him being put on the ground with Chauvin’s knee restricting his movement. Floyd had complained about not being able to breathe, and after several minutes, he stopped speaking. When they checked for his pulse, there was none. In one autopsy report, Floyd’s death was ruled a homicide.

After video of the incident went public, riots broke out throughout the country, lasting months. The Floyd family was eventually awarded a $27 million wrongful death suit against the city of Minneapolis.

Charged, Convicted, and Sentenced

Chauvin was among several officers who were arrested in relation to Floyd’s death, but he, by far, received the stiffest sentence.

On July 7, 2022, the Department of Justice announced that Chauvin had been sentenced to 252 months, with credit for time served, for “depriving George Floyd Jr. and a then-14-year-old child of their constitutional rights.”

Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke for the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division stated, “Derek Chauvin abandoned his sworn oath to uphold the sanctity of life when he callously took George Floyd’s life and when he violently assaulted a 14-year-old child.

“Chauvin’s actions constituted a grave abuse of police authority and a clear violation of these individuals’ civil rights. To the victims, their families, and to the broader community: although the harm that Chauvin caused will never be erased, today’s sentence of more than 20 years in prison represents a measure of justice and accountability.”

Shapiro Calls for Pardon

“The Ben Shapiro Show” has now launched a petition to present to the Trump administration in an effort to have Chauvin pardoned, claiming that he was wrongly convicted in the George Floyd case.

Shapiro wrote, “There was massive overt pressure on the [Minnesota] jury to return a guilty verdict regardless of the evidence or any semblance of impartial deliberation.

“This pressure took the form of threats, coercion, and intimidation. There was no opportunity for blind justice to work, and a man is now rotting in prison because of it. Make no mistake, the Derek Chauvin conviction represents the defining achievement of the Woke movement in American politics.”

I have always believed that Chauvin was over-sentenced in this case, citing many of the things Shapiro had stated himself. Everyone seems to forget that Floyd was on numerous illegal substances at the time of his arrest and was saying he could not breathe when nobody was even near him. Having said that, Trump has to be careful with this case because if he pardons Chauvin, I can guarantee you riots will break out around the country again.
