DOGE announces cancelation of NIH grants for woke animal experiments
I have to admit, seeing how much money the government was spending on ridiculous woke experiments was beyond disturbing.
Some of them have now been canceled, thanks to being exposed by DOGE, and we can expect the liberal meltdown any minute.
Canceled
During Donald Trump’s joint session speech, he noted that the government had been spending about $8 million on crazy woke experiments. Initially, CNN reported the claim was false, but it was later forced to retract that statement.
Some of the funding that was going out was just canceled by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which came under fire during COVID due to Dr. Fauci.
DOGE announced that some of these experiments will no longer be funded, such as more than $500,000 to “use a mouse model to investigate the effects of cross-sex testosterone treatment.” There was another $33,000 to test “feminizing hormone therapy in the male rat.”
This is just absurd, and I don’t understand why this is happening, let alone how members of Congress can approve spending of this nature.
Exposing Waste and Fraud
The White House posted a report in early February on how waste and fraud run deep in our government, but nobody has ever really made an effort to expose it and end it.
The report from the White House noted some of the woke experiments, but it also pointed to some really outlandish DEI programs, such as “$47,000 for transgender opera in Columbia.” We were also spending $6 million to promote Egyptian tourism, for some reason.
While some of the claims in the report were a bit off base, there was a thread of truth to all of them, with Trump just mischaracterizing some bits of the projects, but not enough that he was completely off base.
These types of projects should be funded by activist groups, not taxpayer money. And I would say the same thing if I found out our government was pushing conservative programs with taxpayer money. There should be no partisan spending of taxpayer funds, period. That is what private fundraising groups are for.
Helping Lawsuits
As we move forward, some legal experts believe that Trump’s address to the joint session actually helped the challenges against DOGE, but I am not quite buying the argument.
For instance, during the speech, Trump stated, “I have created the brand-new Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE — perhaps you’ve heard of it. Which is headed by Elon Musk, who is in the gallery tonight.”
Kelly B. McClanahan, a lawyer representing a group of nonprofits and unions challenging DOGE’s legality, believes this provides “new evidence” that Musk is the head of the task force, but that has never been in question. What is in question is if Musk is merely making recommendations as an adviser or setting policy, which he should not be doing in his current role.
This is why I have been adamant that Musk should not be posting policy or final decisions, but instead summarizing his recommendations. Even though Musk is considered an “employee of the White House,” he is leading this task force and everyone knows it, regardless of what the Trump administration says. What he needs to do is recommend changes and forward them to directors, secretaries, and the White House for consideration. If he does anything over and above that, he is opening up himself and the White House to some serious legal issues.
