Andrew Cuomo now the favorite in NYC mayoral race
I will never understand Democrat voters...
After all the misery caused by then-Governor Andrew Cuomo, and after he was run out of office in disgrace, somehow, he is now the odds-on favorite to be the next mayor of New York City.
The Favorite
Mayor Eric Adams is dealing with a scandal of his own, loaded with corruption, which, by the way, the Trump DOJ is trying to have dropped (a decision I do not support).
This should have opened the door for someone new to get into the political picture, but New Yorkers have decided they want yet another corrupt politician from the past to take over... Andrew Cuomo.
Cuomo has managed to get deep-pocketed donors to support his campaign, and he is crushing Mayor Adams in recent polling.
The most recent survey has Cuomo with 31% support, and Adams far behind with only 11%, with the remainder of the field and undecided voters making up the rest. There are still considerable undecided voters, but how in the world is Cuomo leading the field by 20 points?
The $60 Million Hit
Cuomo, if you recall, was at the center of lawsuits over his COVID policies during the pandemic. But that was far from his only problem.
Many of those lawsuits have since been settled, as have sexual discrimination suits centered around Cuomo. New York City taxpayers saw $60 million of their tax dollars go to settle these suits.
Erica Vladimer, co-founder of the Sexual Harassment Working Group, just commented on this, stating, “If Cuomo is willing to use taxpayer dollars to attack government employees that he sexually harassed, what else is he willing to use taxpayer dollars for? He hasn’t taken responsibility and doesn’t deserve to be in office.”
Of that $60 million, roughly $18 million was in legal fees spent to defend Cuomo. Yet voters are clearly not holding him accountable.
From One Corrupt Official to the Next
Cuomo, in a sane world, would be untouchable, but if you can believe it, Adams allies are now flocking to Cuomo.
For instance, Brooklyn Democratic chairwoman Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, a major ally of Adams, has a very interesting situation. Her husband, Ede Hermelyn, is now a top adviser for the Cuomo campaign.
Cuomo campaign spokesman Richard Azzopardi stated, “Edu is a valued political advisor for the campaign who’s helping with elected official outreach. Of course politics is a small world and it’s not uncommon for people involved in it to be married to each other, but what one does shouldn’t necessarily be a reflection on the other.”
I thought Cuomo’s political career was over, but I guess I have to eat a plate of crow on that one. Are you seriously telling me that with all the politicians in New York City, the best the city has to offer is a handsy politician whose policies literally killed people in nursing homes? It’s pathetic that voters even consider him for office, let alone making him the odds-on favorite.
