GOP House member believes Hegseth should be fired

Pete Hegseth is facing a lot of scrutiny on both sides of the aisle over some recent problems at the Pentagon.

He is now losing faith from some GOP members, who believe he should be removed as Secretary of Defense.

Aide Says Time to Fire Hegseth

First, there was #SignalGate, where Hegseth was posting what appeared to be classified information about an attack against the Houthi rebels. A liberal reporter was accidentally added to the chat group, creating an absolute nightmare for the administration.

Then three members of Hegseth’s team, all very close allies of Hegseth before taking this post, were fired for allegedly leaking information without authorization, a claim they are all denying.

Another top staffer quit Hegseth’s office after being demoted, saying he would never play second fiddle to anyone. On top of that, a new Signal report surfaced that Hegseth was sharing plans with family and friends.

That official, John Ullyot, then stated, "The dysfunction is now a major distraction for the president – who deserves better from his senior leadership. Trump has a strong record of holding his top officials to account. Given that, it’s hard to see Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth remaining in his role for much longer."

Would Not Tolerate It

It was not long before Rep. Don Bacon (R-NB) came forward to be among the first Republicans in office to suggest that Hegseth needs to go.

Bacon, a veteran and member of the House Armed Services Committee, stated, "If the reporting is true, this is unacceptable. I would never tell the White House what to do, but I wouldn’t tolerate it.”

The White House responded, "No matter how many times the legacy media tries to resurrect the same nonstory, they can’t change the fact that no classified information was shared.

“Recently fired ‘leakers’ are continuing to misrepresent the truth to soothe their shattered egos and undermine the president’s agenda, but the administration will continue to hold them accountable.”

Senator Banks Fires Back

Senator Jim Banks (R-IN) took the lead on attacking Bacon, which is not surprising. You dare to criticize Trump and his allies come after you.

To that point, Banks stated, “Rep. Bacon was often the deciding vote on the House Armed Services Committee to keep DEI programs in the military that I was fighting against. I’m not surprised he opposes Hegseth and President Trump’s efforts.”

One thing can be true but not related to the other, and that is the case here. Bacon’s previous votes have nothing at all to do with Hegseth’s issues as Secretary of Defense.

I am probably in the minority on this one, but I had stated before his nomination that I thought he was unqualified for this position, and these “small” mistakes are very bothersome to me. I would have loved for Hegseth to prove me wrong, but how long are we going to make excuses for his shortcomings? I stand by my statement that Hegseth needs to go.
