REPORT: Stacey Abrams considering third run for governor
Stacey Abrams is back in the news, as she apparently has not had enough of losing elections.
Reports are breaking that Abrams is considering another run for governor in Georgia, against the will of some powerful Democrats.
Corrupt to the Bone
Numerous groups associated with Stacey Abrams have been accused of campaign violations, but she still acts as though she is mightier than thou.
The New Georgia Project is one of those organizations, having been accused of illegally campaigning for Abrams and other Democrats during the 2018 cycle.
The state ethics commission fined the organization $300,000 for the violations.
Dave Emadi, executive secretary of the state ethics commission, explained, “If an organization is electioneering in Georgia as an independent committee, they have to register with the commission. They have to disclose the money they raise and the source of that money – where they are bringing in their dollars from. They have to disclose how they are spending that, and they have to indicate in the disclosures what they are advocating for or against and name the candidates.”
Abrams Considering Third Run
Last week, the rumors started to fly that Abrams was considering another run at the governor’s mansion, which she has already lost twice.
Kemp defeated Abrams both times, but he is term-limited, so he cannot run again in 2026, and no really promising candidate has been introduced by the GOP as of yet, which is rather baffling.
When you consider how close Abrams was to winning both elections, she does have the high-profile name, but she would also have to deal with all these corruption allegations from the last few years, not that Democratic voters worry about corruption.
Right now, the top candidates on the GOP side are Republican Attorney General Chris Carr and Lt. Governor Burt Jones.
Say It Ain’t So, Stacey
While the rumors are flying, most Georgia Democrats are hoping that Stacey will stay on the sidelines this time around.
Jimmy Johnson, former chairman of the Appling County Democratic Committee, stated, "She's run twice, and that's enough to convince me she won't win.”
Marilyn Langford, a vice chair of the group Georgia 9th District Democrats, added, "Abrams is great, but she missed the train.”
Something tells me that Abrams' hubris will not take that advice, and that we will see her in this election unless a bombshell candidate is announced on the Democrat side, and I just don’t see that happening. So, get ready for Abrams 3.0 in Georgia in 2026.
