Stephen A. Smith: Democrat Party needs to be purged
Since the loss of the 2024 election, support for Democrats has been dwindling at record speed.
Now, one person considering running for office, we would think as a Democrat, is calling for the purging of the Democrat Party.
Time for Chuck to go
This narrative really caught steam about a month ago when Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) worked with the GOP to push through a procedural vote that allowed the GOP to break the filibuster for the short-term spending bill.
Leah Greenberg and Ezra Levin then wrote an op-ed in The Guardian calling for Schumer to step down.
The op-ed started, “In just two months, Donald Trump has launched an assault of staggering ferocity on America’s values, laws and people. The Democratic party faces a choice: does it lead the fight against authoritarianism and billionaire capture, or does it hunker down and hope the president implodes on his own?
“After last week’s legislative debacle, we’ve concluded that if Democrats want to fight, they need to replace the Senate minority leader, Chuck Schumer, with someone who understands the stakes.”
Charlamagne tha God
“The Breakfast Club” podcast host, Charlamagne tha God, then chimed in, calling for all new leadership in the Democrat party.
He stated, “The party of inaction, the Democrats, have failed to protect the interest of the American people. And you know why Dems suck at messaging? Because they never talking about nothing and they do nothing."
“Dems don’t just have a messaging problem. They got a leadership problem. The Chuck Schumers of the world, the Hakeem Jeffries’s, they should all step down,” he continued.
I expected him to go after Schumer, but the attack on Jeffries was new, especially since Charlamagne had supported him in the past. But even liberals are starting to realize that Jeffries has no real vision and has yet to step up to lead the caucus in the House.
Smith chimes in
This brings us to ESPN host Stephen A. Smith, who is now all over the place putting in his two cents on politics, to the point some want to see him run for president.
When Smith was asked by Jake Tapper from CNN if he would run as a Democrat, Smith gave a stunning answer, stating, “You know what? I’m an independent. I’m a registered independent. I would lean — who leans left. I’m fiscally conservative when it comes to my money. I’m socially liberal. I’m liberal when it comes to social issues pretty much across the board. I believe in living and let living. So I’m a moderate. And I would say, if I had to run, it would be as a Democrat, but I’m not happy with the Democratic Party."
“So the Democratic Party, as presently constructed, it would pretty much need to be purged in order for me to assume that I would want to be associated with them and I would garner their support, because I don’t like the way they have gone about doing a lot of things for a very, very long period of time.”
This is a completely shocking statement to me, as he is literally calling out all leadership, including Jeffries, at this point. Do I think Smith can garner enough support for the nomination, let alone the presidency? At this point, I would say no, but I have to admit, I would love to see him on the debate stage opposite Harris because I think it would be a bloodbath.
