Vance says US has no business getting involved in India-Pakistan conflict
I am going to go out on a limb and say that it may only be a matter of time before MAGA falls out of love with Vice President JD Vance.
Vance has broken from Trump on several occasions, and he just did again regarding the India-Pakistan conflict.
No Endorsement
Earlier this year, Trump was asked outright about singling out Vance for the 2028 election, but Trump was a bit hesitant to hand Vance the throne just yet.
When Trump was asked about endorsing Vance as the heir apparent, Trump responded, “No, but he’s very capable. I think you have a lot of very capable people. So far, I think he’s doing a very fantastic job. It’s too early; we’re just starting.”
That had to sting for Vance, but he tried to take the high road when the media asked him about the comments, stating, “I think he said exactly what he should have said, which is, ‘It’s too early.’
“There will be a time to focus on politics, of course — [like] the midterms. … So let’s do a good job and then worry about the midterms. And then we’ll worry about presidential politics at the appropriate time.”
The Houthi Strikes
The Signal chat leak revealed that Vance was hesitant to back the strike against the Houthis ordered by Hegseth, which raised some eyebrows in MAGA.
After the chat was leaked, one Senator stated, “A number of Republican senators are very concerned about [his foreign policy views]. They think it’s quite revealing. It reveals a mindset that I’m sure is perplexing to our European allies.”
Senator Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) went on the record, stating, “JD is consistent on this. He does not like to see the deployment or the projection of American power outside of a direct threat to the United States. He’s at least consistent on that. I disagree with him, but he is consistent.”
There were also reports of other GOP senators saying they were very disappointed that Vance was not backing Trump’s play without reservation.
Not Our Business
Last week, it was reported that a conflict had broken out between Pakistan and India, with Trump immediately poking his nose into it to say that he wanted to broker peace, stating, “I know both very well, and I want to see them work it out. I want to see them stop. And hopefully they can stop now. They've got a tit-for-tat, so hopefully they can stop now. But I know both. We get along with both countries very well. Good relationships with both. And I want to see it stop. And if I can do anything to help I will. I will be there as well."
JD Vance did not feel the same way, stating, "Well look, we’re concerned about any time nuclear powers collide and have a major conflict. What we’ve said, what Secretary Rubio has said, and certainly what the President has said is, we want this thing to deescalate as quickly as possible.
"We can’t control these countries though, fundamentally, India has its gripes with Pakistan. Pakistan has responded to India. What we can do is encourage these folks to deescalate a little bit, but we're not going to get involved in the middle of a war that's fundamentally none of our business and has nothing to do with America's ability to control it."
Vance is not someone I am overly excited about, mostly because of his relationship with Vivek Ramaswamy, who I do not trust at all. A Vance candidacy would likely feature Ramaswamy as the VP, and that is just not something that I can support. It may not come down to that, however, if Vance keeps breaking with Trump, as it will not take much for MAGA to disown him if he starts to block Trump policies.
