Rep. Crockett reveals who Dems could run for president
With Kamala Harris getting torched by Trump in the 2024 election, Democrats need to identify a candidate soon to build momentum for the 2028 race as well as putting pressure on the GOP to identify its frontrunner.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) did not offer a name, but she did give us a hint as to whom the party is looking at for the 2028 cycle.
The dark horse candidate
Last year, most people would have laughed at the idea of AOC running for president, but she has become a legitimate threat.
All it took was for Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to allow the GOP to pass a short-term funding bill to keep the government open to get her some momentum.
Not only was AOC leading Schumer in polling for his Senate seat, but now she is gaining momentum as a possible 2028 candidate.
Now, I doubt AOC will run just yet, and I don’t think she would have enough support, but this is not something to laugh off, either. This could change as we get closer to the primary season, so keep an eye on her in polling.
The favorites
Kamala Harris is an obvious favorite because Democrats love to keep running out losers, but I am not so sure she will have the party’s support. I see her running for governor of California, then staying in office for her two terms, and possibly making another run at the White House afterward.
Governor Newsom of California is clearly making a run, and he has been making moves since the last election to position himself as the favorite. While he is a disaster waiting to happen, he is very good in front of the camera, and today, these elections are more popularity contests than anything else, so watch out.
Pete Buttigieg is another possibility, as the younger crowd loves him and he checks off a lot of boxes for the Democrat Party. He’s gay, he’s married, and he adopted two black children, while also serving in the Biden administration. He did nothing while he was there other than putting a position on his resume, but Dems love the guy.
PA Governor Josh Shapiro should have been selected as Harris’ VP, and I firmly believe it would have been a different race had she taken him instead of Tim Walz. Shapiro has gained a lot of steam, and donors seem to love him, so he would be one of my top picks if you asked me who I think the Dems would run out there today.
Crockett's stunning comments
So, if you noticed my list, all but Harris have one thing in common, and there is a reason for it, and that is the recent comments by Rep. Crockett on who she thinks the party will choose to run for office.
After addressing the idea that Harris running again, or any woman, for that matter, could lose as Dems had done in the past, she then stated, “And I think that that’s a natural fear because we just want to win. So there’s a lot of people that are like, you know what? Like, let’s go find the safest white boy we can find. I mean, I’m just saying.
“No, for real. And to be clear, when we talk about them, I can tell you that there is one specific candidate. I had a donor on the phone with me telling me that all the donors are lining up behind that candidate. So I can tell, and I tell you, it’s not a black person nor a woman, okay?”
I can’t get over the quote, “The safest white boy we can find,” but it does give us some insight into who the party wants in place. The only other name I can think to add to that list is Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, but I just don’t see him getting enough grip to win the nomination. I can, however, see any of the three I mentioned above getting the nod, so even though Harris is the clear leader in polls, let’s see what happens when the money starts flowing and her war chest is left with dust bunnies in it.
