House Dems pulling impeachment articles against Trump
As I am sure you know by now, Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) went for his 15 minutes of fame by introducing articles of impeachment against Trump.
This week, he tried to make a move, and he was utterly embarrassed when his party refused to back his play.
Just Being Selfish
While most Democrats would not go on the record, many of them were furious over what was nothing more than a political stunt for Thanedar to raise his profile and grab some headlines.
For instance, one Democrat stated, “This is the dumbest fu**ing thing. Utterly selfish behavior.” Dems just love dropping that F-bomb now.
Another stated, “What a dumbs**t.”
Thanedar stated that this is not about the attention, yet when he initially announced the articles of impeachment, it was on the same day that he found out someone was going to primary him, so you be the judge of that.
Progressives Back Down
House progressives have been after Trump since 2017, and most figured they would jump on this, but even they backed off from backing the resolution.
For instance, Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA) said the impeachment was nothing more than “a distraction.”
House Progressive Caucus Chairman Greg Casar (D-TX) added, "This doomed impeachment vote is not about holding Trump accountable, but instead seems to be about the interest of the bill sponsor.”
The writing was on the wall, and Thanedar finally got the message.
Impeachment Pulled
Thanedar had initially stated that he would introduce the resolution with privilege, which would have forced a vote within 48 hours, but after all the pushback, he decided otherwise.
On Wednesday, rather than being embarrassed with a bipartisan rejection, he said that he was pulling the legislation. However, he also tried to cover himself, hinting that he would use the time to make his case stronger against Trump, then ask more to join him in his quest to impeach Trump. It just reminded me of the stunt Rep. Al Green (D-TX) pulled during Trump's first term.
He stated, “After talking with many colleagues, I have decided not to force a vote on impeachment today. Instead, I will add to my articles of impeachment and continue to rally the support of both Democrats and Republicans to defend the Constitution with me.”
I vowed not to call people bad names anymore in my reports, but I have to admit, I am tempted here. This was clearly a political stunt, and it backfired, showing once again that members of Congress are more interested in theater than they are in working for We the People.
