RFK congressional hearings go off the rails
It is not exactly a secret that Democrats have been frothing at the mouth to go after HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Well, this week, they had their chance, and the hearings did not disappoint.
Not Legitimate
One of the more ridiculous exchanges was between Kennedy and Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-N.J.).
Coleman was clearly looking to create something that would wind up on the evening news highlights, and she succeeded.
She barely let Kennedy speak, telling him, "The impact of reorganization is something that I shall continually ask you to show me.
“So please let me warn you now. And I don't want rhetoric, I want numbers."
He’s a Killer
House Dems were not the only ones going after Kennedy, as protesters were present, disrupting the hearings on multiple occasions.
For instance, at one point, a protester stated, "RFK kills people with hate!" Then the entire group started the chant.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) shut down the hearing to clear the room, adding, "Members of the audience are reminded disruptions will not be permitted while the committee conducts its business. Capitol Police are asked to remove the individuals from the hearing room."
When the room was cleared and the hearing resumed, he added, "That was a made-for-C-SPAN moment.”
Bringing the Receipts
One thing Kennedy is armed with, and that is information, although he sometimes get that information from some questionable sources.
In this case, Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), she of the dyed blue hair, hit Kennedy for the cutting of funding for “life-saving” research and recent measles outbreaks, stating, “The Europe you are referring to is the WHO European region, which has 53 countries in Europe and in Asia, including those with low vaccination rates like Romania that has never eliminated measles. If you compare us to Western European countries that we often compare ourselves to like Great Britain, they have seen no measles deaths this year.”
Kennedy responded, “Let me address your issue first, because I want to correct you. We have about 1,100 measles cases in this country. The growth rate last year was 15 additional, so we have plateaued. Mexico has roughly the same number, but one-third of our population and they got 300 extra cases last week. Canada has more measles, 1,500, they have one-eighth of our population. Western Europe has about 6,000 which is ten times the number that we have. You are wrong about what you said earlier.”
I would call that a drop-the-mic moment, and this time, Kennedy’s information was dead on. I applaud him for having this at the ready, as we far too often see people go before these committees offering very little in regard to meaningful responses. Kennedy hit it out of the park.
