Trump-appointed justice challenges administration

Justice Amy Coney Barrett has been a challenge for Donald Trump, but to this point, he has defended her.

After Barrett went after the solicitor general during recent arguments, people are wondering just how much longer Trump will defend his appointment.

Respecting the Supreme Court

Donald Trump is clearly upset with the courts for blocking him over his orders to push his immigration agenda, so it was natural for a journalist to ask Trump if he would respect court rulings.

When Trump was directly asked about respecting the Supreme Court’s ruling, Trump responded, “I have great respect for the Supreme Court,’ and that he would abide by its ruling.

He said that even though the administration had yet to bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia back from El Salvador, even though the court had ordered the administration to “facilitate” his return.

When asked about that situation, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt turned into a wordsmith, stating, “The Supreme Court made their ruling last night very clear that it’s the administration’s responsibility to facilitate the return, not to effectuate the return.”

Defending Barrett

MAGA has been all over Barrett, as she is, by far, the one justice who walks across the aisle the most since being added to the bench.

To this point, however, Trump has stuck up for his appointed justice, recently stating, “She’s a very good woman. She’s very smart, and I don’t know about people attacking her, I really don’t know. I think she’s a very good woman. She’s very smart.”

Barret, in my opinion, follows Justice Roberts more often than not, and seems to have a more moderate interpretation than her conservative counterparts, but I don’t think that is necessarily a bad thing.

Even though conservatives have a 6-3 edge, with its current makeup, I think the court is more balanced than ever, and Barrett continues to prove me right on that with every decision.

Barrett Calls Out Administration

A lot of conservative media members are calling for Barrett’s head for her statements regarding the issue of nationwide injunctions now being argued, but I happen to think her comments met the moment.

During arguments, Solicitor General John Sauer was asked by Barrett about comments he had previously made regarding not following rulings coming from the 2nd Circuit because the administration did not agree with the ruling.

Sauer had stated that they “generally” follow rulings, to which Barrett responded, "So, you're still saying ‘generally’? And you still think that it's generally the long-standing policy of the federal government to take that approach?" Conservative commentator and podcast host Cash Loren responded, "Amy Coney Barrett (ACB) is proving once again she may the the worst SCOTUS pick ever by a Republican.”

I completely disagree. Let’s really look at this for a second. If the White House does not abide by a court ruling, then how can you hold a regular person accountable to a court’s ruling? There are some serious ramifications for not obeying the court, which is why we play out the process and appeal through the Supreme Court. Barrett said nothing wrong there, and I think the reaction to her rulings is beyond an overreaction. You win some, and you lose some, but you must always abide by the court, respect its rulings, and allow the appeals process to play out.
