New spending bill appears to ignore DOGE cut recommendations
When Elon Musk was made the head of DOGE, he was asked to find ways to trim money from the annual budget.
An early look at the new spending bill is a slap in the face, as most of the cuts recommended are not included in the bill.
DOGE
Not long after DOGE was formed, the agency claimed it was saving Americans $160 billion as it started to root out fraud and waste.
However, an independent study found that DOGE was actually costing Americans about $135 billion due to all the back-and-forth with legal challenges.
White House spokesman Harrison Fields responded, "The continued attempts to sow doubt in the massive accomplishments of this never-before-seen effort to make government more efficient speaks more about the illegitimacy of those peddling these falsehoods than good work of DOGE.
"The American public are in lockstep with the president's mission and will not be swayed by more lies coming from the legacy media."
Some DOGE Cuts
DOGE has some great ideas, so I wanted to address some of the big ones here before we talk about the new bill.
For instance, DOGE put a spotlight on unauthorized government spending, and Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) has jumped all over this, allegedly finding roughly $60 billion in bogus credit card transactions.
On that same front, DOGE was looking to cut funding for partisan operations, such as Planned Parenthood, which is actually in the new spending bill.
There is also the idea of cutting the federal workforce back, which I support, but I think the idea of blanket firings is just silly.
Slap in the Face
There is a lot of good in that bill, but there are some questionable policies, such as no tax on tips, and many of the cuts recommended by DOGE are not necessarily in the bill.
This issue was recently discussed in detail…
When DOGE was first formed, I had stated that I did not expect the agency to come anywhere close to the $2 trillion that Musk stated during the election season.
As it turns out, DOGE may wind up costing us money if the administration does not follow the cuts in this legislation. This is something else that Democrats will use against the GOP in the upcoming cycle, so let’s hope they get it right.
