Hegseth gets lit up by both parties on the Hill
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s days may be numbered if we are to take anything from his recent appearance on the Hill.
With rumors surfacing that nobody wants to work with or for Hegseth, he got absolutely torched while testifying on the Hill this week.
We Don’t Like Pete
I was never a fan of Pete Hegseth and did not hide my dismay when Trump named the former Fox News host as his Secretary of Defense.
Several scandals later, Hegseth had fired a bunch of top staffers, but now he is struggling to get the positions filled, with rumors flying that nobody wants to work with Pete.
NBC News just reported, “Top Defense Department jobs, including the defense secretary’s chief of staff, are normally considered prestigious and typically attract multiple qualified candidates.
“But at least three people have already turned down potential roles under Hegseth, according to a former US official, the defense official and a person familiar with the matter.”
Get Out
Rep. Salud Carbajal (D-CA) went for the jugular when Hegseth testified before a House committee this week, telling him to resign.
He stated, “I have called for your resignation. I didn’t think you were qualified before your confirmation, and you have done nothing to inspire confidence in your ability to lead competently.”
Carbajal also threw darts over the Signal chat leak, stating, “You broke the law in sharing classified information and in doing so, endangered the lives of our service members that you are responsible for.
“Your inability to hold yourself accountable makes you incapable to lead. To lead. This alone makes you unfit to be the secretary of Defense.”
GOP Takes Aim
If Hegseth thought he would catch a break going before Senate Republicans, he was wrong, as they were just as vicious as the Democrats.
Senator McConnell (R-KY) hit Hegseth on the Russian-Ukraine war, telling him our allies are “wondering whether we’re in the middle of brokering what appears to be allowing the Russians to define victory. I think victory is defined by the people who have to live there — the Ukrainians.”
Senator Graham (R-S.C.) went off asked he asked Hegseth if he thought Putin would stop at Ukraine. When Hegseth said that remains to be seen, Graham responded, “Well, he says he’s not. This is the ‘30s all over. It doesn’t ‘remain to be seen.’”
I have always thought Hegseth was in way over his head, as his record simply did not support him being able to handle this position. I have seen nothing from him that has changed my mind, and quite frankly, I am getting sick and tired of the photo ops of him working out with troops (and I have it on good authority the troops are sick and tired of it as well). Hegseth has very little support other than that of Donald Trump, and I would be highly surprised if he is still around with the mid-term elections start to heat up.
