Rand Paul livid for being dissed for White House picnic

Every year, the White House throws a big picnic for all members of Congress, in what is supposed to be a show of bipartisan unity.

This year, while every Democrat got an invite, there were a few Republicans left off the list.

Trump Hits Paul

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has never hidden his disdain for this bill, and quite frankly, I agree with just about everything he says.

I believe this bill is a disaster on many fronts, which I have beaten to death in other reports, so I won’t rehash them here.

Paul has also spoken out against the bill, which drew the ire of Trump, who stated, “He loves voting ‘NO’ on everything, he thinks it’s good politics, but it’s not.”

Then Trump went directly after Paul, stating that he “never has any practical or constructive ideas. His ideas are actually crazy (losers!). The people of Kentucky can’t stand him. This is a BIG GROWTH BILL!”

Not Invited

This was textbook Trump… instead of opening up dialogue, revert to bullying and insults to try to get the person to cave, but it was not working, so either Trump or some member of his staff (my guess is Steven Cheung) decided to disinvite Paul to the picnic.

Paul responded, “I’ve just been told that I’ve been uninvited from the picnic; I think I’m the first senator in the history of the United States to be uninvited to the White House picnic.

“The White House is owned by the taxpayers, we are all members of it, every Democrat will be invited, every Republican will be invited, but I will be the only one disallowed to come on the grounds of the White House.

“I just find this incredibly petty. I have been, I think nothing but polite to the president. I have been an intellectual opponent, a public policy opponent, and he’s chosen now to uninvite me from the picnic and to say my grandson can’t come to the picnic.”

He Can Come

Paul is right, as this was a petty move, but it was not just Paul who was uninvited, as Rep. Massie (R-KY) also found out he did not have access to tickets, stating, “Incredibly petty & shortsighted of Trump’s staff to exclude Republicans from the annual White House picnic while inviting Pelosi and every Democrat.”

Trump tried to make this right Thursday morning, posting to Truth Social that “of course” Paul was invited, adding, “He’s the toughest vote in the history of the U.S. Senate, but why wouldn’t he be?

“Besides, it gives me more time to get his Vote on the Great, Big, Beautiful Bill, one of the greatest and most important pieces of legislation ever put before our Senators & Congressmen/women.”

Paul and Massie were right, as this was petty. I doubt if Trump could have been bothered with this detail, but I would bet a staffer thought it would be funny to stir the pot, and revoked the tickets from these two. It’s childish, which is why I think it was Steven Cheung, but it just a horrible look for the party and accomplishes nothing, especially with the fate of the administration hanging in the balance in the 2026 administration. Can the adults please take over before we hand the Democrats the gift of a lifetime?
