Trump visit to Alligator Alcatraz reveals first look at facility
Governor Ron DeSantis and his attorney general created quite the buzz by offering Alligator Alcatraz to the Trump administration to hold illegal immigrants.
The facility will be located in the Everglades, hence the name, and now that pictures have been leaked, Democrats are up in arms.

The facility is expected to cost about $450 million a year to run, a nice income producer for the state of Florida.
While there are already objections to the funding, it will cost less than half of what Democrats were paying to house illegals during the Biden administration, and that was just for the hotel stay.
The DeSantis number is all-in, but Biden was reportedly paying $500 a night for hotels, and the cost of this is less than half that number, and the meals and staff are included in the $450 million quote by the state.
Florida’s attorney general, James Uthmeier, who is also a major Trump supporter, will have a fight on his hands, however, as the Democrats and activists have already started to file suits.
Dems pushing back
It took about five seconds for Democrats to cry foul, and state Dems are already raising hell over the new project.
Six state representatives penned a letter fighting the construction of the facility, stating, "This site is ecologically sensitive, culturally sacred, and federally invested. It lies within the footprint of the Greater Everglades ecosystem and borders tribal lands, protected habitats, and federally funded restoration zones.”
The Seminole Tribe of Florida is also pushing back, posting, "Traditional Seminole cultural, religious, and recreational activities, as well as commercial endeavors, are dependent on a healthy Everglades ecosystem.
“In fact, the Tribe's identity is so closely linked to the land that Tribal members believe that if the land dies, so will the Tribe.”
Photos revealed
The photos were very reminiscent of other holding facilities, showing basic bunk beds in small groups, separated by fencing, which I am sure will be called cages.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained the set-up, stating, “There’s only one road leading in, and the only way out is a one-way flight. It is isolated and surrounded by dangerous wildlife and unforgiving terrain.”
While the media and Democrats look on in horror, Trump joked, “We’re going to teach them how to run away from an alligator, OK, if they escape from prison. How to run away. Don’t run in a straight line. Run like this,” making zig-zag motions.
I love the idea, and I really don’t care about the Democrats' objections. These people broke the law, so they are not entitled to five-star digs. And they have to keep them in small groups for safety, the accommodations are what they are. Bedding, three squares, and a roof over their heads... it’s the American dream.
