Donald Trump tells GOP to walk away from Dems deal
Donald Trump has faced an uphill battle to get his nominees approved.
Since Dems are not in the majority and the GOP does not have the numbers to shut Democrats out on all fronts, Senator Schumer (D-NY) has been trying to work deals with Senator Thune (R-SD) to get funding in exchange for Democrats ending their blockades.
Well, Trump has had enough and just told Thune to walk away.
Time to change the rules
The opposing side always plays games with nominees, but I have never seen anything like what Democrats did to Trump during his first term, as well as the games they are playing this time around.
This is especially true in the judiciary, where Dems are blackballing Trump’s nominees in states where they have both seats, using the blue card method to shoot them all down.
To this point, Thune has been respecting tradition, but that could change, as Republicans are hammering him about changing the rules to make the process go quicker.
Thune stated, “We may need to look at doing things differently on nominees generally if the Democrats continue on this path of obstruction that they’re on right now.”
Trump goes ballistic
Donald Trump had had enough this weekend, telling Thune to shut it all down.
Trump posted to Truth Social, "This demand is egregious and unprecedented, and would be embarrassing to the Republican Party if it were accepted. It is political extortion, by any other name.
"Tell Schumer, who is under tremendous political pressure from within his own party, the Radical Left Lunatics, to GO TO HE**!"
He later posted, "Do not accept the offer. Go home and explain to your constituents what bad people the Democrats are, and what a great job the Republicans are doing, and have done, for our Country. Have a great RECESS and, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!"
Bargaining power
Trump called out Schumer again for using the nominees as leverage for Democrats to get money for their pet programs.
Trump wrote, "Democrats, lead[sic] by Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, are slow walking my Nominees, more than 150 of them. They wanted us to pay, originally, two billion dollars for approvals. The Dems are CRAZED LUNATICS!!!"
This led to Thune looking to move forward with a rule change, stating, "I think they’re desperately in need of change. I think that the last six months have demonstrated that this process, nominations is broken. And so I expect there will be some good robust conversations about that."
This is what aggravates me about Congress. They are more interested in being obstructionists than in allowing an administration to be successful, as it is always about power. The GOP does the same thing to an extent, but not to the level that Democrats have taken it to. But you better believe Thune and the GOP are taking notes, and will repay the favor when Democrats are back in charge… and who can blame them? But the biggest loser in all of this is the American people, who have to sit back and wait for the government to move forward while both parties flex.
