Trump scores a trifecta of Supreme Court wins
Talk about a big week for Trump, who got three wins from the Supreme Court in the last seven days.
Mind you, they may not be permanent wins, but they are wins that will drive the left into a tizzy.
Go ahead and raid
California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) has been gloating about defeating Trump on the National Guard being deployed.
This week, however, the Supreme Court gave Trump the authority to continue to use the National Guard while arguments are heard.
Newsom had a fit, stating, "@realDonaldTrump's hand-picked SCOTUS majority just became the Grand Marshal for a parade of racial terror in LA. His administration is targeting Latinos -- and anyone who doesn’t look or sound like @StephenM's idea of an American -- to deliberately harm our families and economy.”
Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) added, "This Administration rounded up and arrested California residents, including U.S. citizens and legal residents, based on the color of their skin or the language they speak. This is blatantly illegal, yet the Supreme Court is allowing it to happen while the case proceeds. When the history of this country’s rapid descent into dictatorship is written, Republicans in Congress and the Roberts Court will have been its primary enabler.”
Hold back the money
The second part of this was the Court allowing Trump to continue to hold back funding from USAID, roughly $5 billion.
This was the package that Trump had put forth while Congress was on break, which is called a pocket rescission.
Trump can hold the funding back while Congress addresses the funding.
If Congress passes it, Trump gets to keep the money in the till. If not, it will eventually have to be released.
Taking the tariff case
The third leg of the trifecta is a win, of sorts, as Trump has finally gotten his ability to apply tariffs without congressional approval before the Court.
This is a monster issue for Trump, and he has repeatedly been blocked in the lower courts, so either way, this will get settled very soon.
Trump has been using these tariffs for leverage with countries on some key agenda issues, as well as getting better trade deals for the United States. The left fears Trump’s liberal use of tariffs will trigger a global depression the likes of the Great Depression.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has warned about revoking them, stating, “Unwinding them could cause significant disruption.” Trump has been pressing presidential powers since day one, something Democrats are saying he is abusing, and we will soon find out who is right in this fight.
