Eric Holder pushing Supreme Court expansion
When Supreme Court expansion was first brought up during the 2020 campaign, I never really took it seriously. In order for that to happen, first, Democrats would need to have overwhelming numbers in Congress as well as the White House. And second, most of the establishment was not on board, so it was unlikely to happen.
That situation has just dramatically changed with former Obama Attorney General Eric Holder now leading the charge.
Biden caves to the far left
During the 2020 campaign, the far left had a hook in Biden, so he knew he had to do something to pacify them on this front.
He loosely talked about it, then, after taking office, Biden formed a commission to investigate the possibility of adding justices to the Court.
The report was a complete and utter joke, with nearly 300 pages of fluff and not any real substance other than being a detailed lesson on the history of the Supreme Court and previous attempts to load it up.
Needless to say, Biden never bought into the idea that we needed to pack the court because even he knew there was nothing to stop Republicans from doing the same thing once they were in charge.
Warren leads the way
After that report was out, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) introduced legislation to add justices to the Court. This was nothing more than a headline grab because Democrats did not have the numbers to get this passed.
Regardless, Warren spouted off about how horrible the Court was and how untrustworthy it was due to the conservative majority.
She concluded, “This extremist court has shown that it is not interested in advancing the equal administration of justice. It’s time to rebalance the Supreme Court to create one that is.”
The odd thing about all this is that this Court has given Democrats plenty of wins, but they just lose it when they don’t get their way all the time, so they are always looking to change the rules of the game.
Holder is in
After leaving office, Holder created an organization to fight Republican gerrymandering, while, ironically, supporting Democrat gerrymandering, and he was very effective.
Holder’s organization has big pockets, and the Democrat establishment loves him, so this is a whole new ball game. On the idea of loading up the Court, he stated, "I think the Supreme Court has to be reformed, potentially, you know, expanded. We cannot simply allow this court to continue to do that which it has done. They don’t focus on precedent; they focus on personnel.
“And by that, I mean, you know, they think, 'Alright, we've got six votes and we can now do things that are inconsistent with precedent, long-term precedents that have been put in place,' to the detriment of our democracy, to the detriment of fairness — and that means political fairness as well as economic fairness. And, so I think, yeah, that should be a part of whoever runs for president -- Supreme Court reform.”
So, yeah, I am worried about quite a bit more this time than I was in 2020. If Holder is behind it, that likely means Barack Obama supports it, which means, like it or not, the Democrat establishment will get behind it. If you needed a reason to get off your couch and vote in 2026 and 2028, you just got it.
