REPORT: Mamdani accepted more than $13,000 in foreign donations
New York City Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is not having the best of weeks.
Mayor Eric Adams withdrew from the race, getting the field down closer to a heads-up race with Andrew Cuomo.
But now reports are surfacing that he has taken some illegal donations.
Tightening Up
Throughout the race, Adams was getting around eight percent support in polling.
When he dropped out of the race, Andrew Cuomo was trailing Mandani by about 20 points, but that has now been reduced to 13 points, meaning that Cuomo absorbed just about all of Adams’ support.
Curtis Sliwa is still in the race, and he has about 15% support as the GOP nominee, which is inside the margin Cuomo trails Mamdani now.
Right now, the race is still a blowout win for Mamdani, but if Sliwa does decide to drop out, this becomes a toss-up race.
Chased Out
Mamdani got some face time with someone who does not appreciate his anti-Israel stance during an appearance at Manhattan's Foley Square on Friday.
A man approached Mamdani, yelling, "Denounce Hezbollah! Denounce Sharia law!"
Mamdani’s security team swooped in around him to remove him from the area to a waiting vehicle just in case things got a bit testier.
Tensions on this front have risen since Mamdani’s disgusting statement about October 7, which drew a response by the Israeli Foreign Ministry (IFM), which stated, "By repeating Hamas’s lies, he excuses terror and normalizes antisemitism. He stands with Jews only when they are dead. Shameful.”
Illegal Money
One of the reasons that Mayor Adams is out of the race is that he had been accused of taking illegal donations, and it now appears that Mamdani may have done the same thing.
Reports broke this week on the subject, with the New York Post reporting, “At least 170 of the nearly 54,000 contributions to the leading Democratic candidate’s campaign came from donors with addresses outside the United States.”
This is a big deal, as Mamdani would be forced to forfeit matching funding for this election. Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa, who has shown no signs of leaving the race, stated, “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, so I would be very concerned. There is probably a lot more in terms of foreign money.”
I agree with him completely, but my concerns go much deeper. As we saw with former Senator Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) and Mayor Adams, there are usually some ties that come with these donations. This is something that must be investigated immediately to find out if someone is digging their talons into Mamdani from a foreign government.
