Johnson has talk with Greene as GOP becoming frustrated over her split
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) once backed every move made by Trump, but that is no longer the case. After being snubbed for a Cabinet position, something she clearly wanted, she has broken with Trump on the Epstein files and tax breaks for healthcare.
Members of the GOP are getting frustrated with her, but she is sticking by her guns, which is why Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) had a little chat with her.
The Epstein files
Greene first broke with Trump when the Epstein files were taken off the table by Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Bondi, at first, claimed that she had the list on her desk, but then claimed she misspoke, and just meant she had all the Epstein files on her desk for review.
On the files, Greene stated, “My signature is on that discharge petition, and there has not been another issue where I have ever received more pressure than that one, and I’m pretty much shocked by it. I can’t imagine — I’ve never understood how this is an issue.
“I think when it comes to women being raped, especially when they were 14 years old, that’s pretty black and white.”
Healthcare subsidies
Greene also broke with the GOP on giving the healthcare subsidies for Obamacare, concerned that premiums would rise so high that people would not be able to afford their coverage.
She posted her position online, stating, “Let’s just say as nicely as possible, I’m not a fan. But I’m going to go against everyone on this issue because when the tax credits expire this year my own adult children’s insurance premiums for 2026 are going to DOUBLE, along with all the wonderful families and hard-working people in my district.
“No I’m not towing the party line on this, or playing loyalty games. I’m a Republican and won’t vote for illegals to have any tax payer funded healthcare or benefits. I’m AMERICA ONLY!!!”
Now, a lot of people slammed her over this, but I am a firm believer that a representative’s first duty is to their constituents, not the party nor the president. And I know that is not a popular opinion right now, but so be it. As long as a representative is truly representing the concerns of their district, I will support them.
Frustration
A report surfaced this week that some Republicans are getting upset with Greene over these breaks with the party, to which Greene responded, “I’m actually representing what a lot of Americans fully support.
“My job title is not ‘cheerleader for Republicans in Congress.’ I’m not talking about the president. I’m talking about Republicans in Congress. And Republicans in Congress are the ones that need to come up with a plan to fix the health insurance.”
Speaker Johnson recently admitted that he had a “thoughtful conversation” with Greene on her stance, saying that even though Greene is not on any committee concerning healthcare, he “offered to have her come into the room and be a part of that discussion, if indeed she wants to do that.”
If he is telling the truth, I love that idea, and I think that is a big step in the right direction. We need to stop ostracizing Republicans because they have a different opinion on things from time to time. You guys know me, and I have called Republicans out regularly when I think they screw up or are just flat out wrong, yet you come back day after day to read my opinions. Is it unreasonable to ask our elected officials to conduct themselves in the same manner? Just talk to each other, in person, and stop fighting these battles in the media… that is all I am asking for here.
