Trump refuses to take question from ABC News after JD Vance incident
This weekend, Vice President J.D. Vance was doing the media circuit for the administration. When ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos asked him about an alleged bribe taken by border czar Tom Homan, Vance tried to lecture Stephanopoulos, and he was cut off, and the segment ended.
In retaliation, when Trump was asked a question by an ABC News reporter, he shut them down, citing how Vance had been treated.
The allegations
Prior to taking his position, Homan was the target of an alleged FBI sting, where he was offered $50,000 to rig contacts regarding the incoming administration’s immigration policies.
The bribe was allegedly accepted, with there being a tape recording of the incident to back up the allegations.
According to the report on the sting operation, Homan was put in contact with the agents via a third source, thinking they were contractors, and Homan agreed to take the kickbacks for contracts.
Once the Trump administration came into power, the investigation was killed, and the Trump administration has been adamant that Homan did nothing wrong.
Vance versus Stephanopoulos
A lot of people are going after Stephanopoulos for this, but I have to be honest, although I really like the work that Homan is doing, I want more information on this. You guys know I despise corrupt public officials, and if there is any truth to this, I want those threads either pulled or disproven.
When Stephanopoulos asked Vance about the alleged tape, Vance aggressively responded, “I don’t know what tape you’re referring to, George.”
Vance continued, “I saw media reports that Tom Homan accepted a bribe. There’s no evidence of that. And here’s why fewer and fewer people watch your program and why you’re losing credibility.”
Vance then blistered him over the fact that with everything else this administration has achieved, ABC was pushing a “left-wing” theory about Homan, and Stephanopoulos shot back, “It’s not a weird left-wing rabbit hole. I didn’t insinuate anything. I asked you whether Tom Homan accepted $50,000, as was heard on an audiotape recorded by the FBI in September 2024, and you did not answer the question.” And with that, he cut the segment and went to commercial.
Banned
During a recent White House event, Trump was taking questions, and he started, “We’ll take a couple of questions from the news, and I’m sure they’ll be incredibly non-hostile, and friendly, like JD went through a very ‘friendly’ interview with George Slopadopoulos.”
Trump then stated, “He was nice enough to pay me $16 million the last time we came — he had to pay $16 million to me. Which is good. It was worth it. It was worth having somebody lie. If you get $16 million, that’s good.” He continued, “JD had a very nasty person interviewing him, and we can’t let that happen. Just is inappropriate to cut off a highly respected vice president of the United States, mid-sentence. I guess it’s one way to win an argument. That was the only way he was gonna win the argument. It was pretty inappropriate, I wanna tell you that.”
Trump then stated that he would not be taking questions from ABC News for the way that JD Vance was treated.
Again, I really like Homan, but that does not make him immune. If that tape exists, I would love to have access to it to draw my own conclusions about it. I hate to say it, but Trump has a history of forgiving corrupt politicians, such as NYC Mayor Eric Adams, former Nevada politician Michele Fiore, and former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, just to name a few (in all, Trump has offered clemency to more than a dozen corrupt politicians). I am not saying Homan is guilty because I have not yet seen the proof, but if that tape exists, it is pretty much a smoking gun, and I don’t think it should be hidden from the American people.
