Trump's presidential physician declares him in excellent health and fully fit after Walter Reed physical

President Donald Trump scored a perfect 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment and showed no cardiac obstruction or structural heart abnormalities during his latest physical at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, his physician reported in a letter the White House released Friday night.

U.S. Navy Captain Sean Barbabella, the presidential physician, wrote that Trump "remains in excellent health" and is "fully fit to carry out all duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State." The letter, first reported by Breitbart, amounts to a clean bill of health across every major organ system, cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, gastrointestinal, and more.

The exam took place Tuesday at Walter Reed. Its results land in a political environment where questions about presidential fitness have shadowed the White House for years, though this time, the numbers and the testing battery leave little room for speculation.

What the tests showed

Barbabella's summary is unusually detailed. Coronary CT angiography found no arterial obstruction and no structural abnormalities of the heart or major vessels. An AI-enhanced electrocardiogram estimated Trump's cardiac age at roughly 14 years younger than his actual age, a metric Barbabella called "an established measure of cardiovascular vitality."

An echocardiogram showed normal cardiac chambers and valves with a preserved ejection fraction. Heart sounds were normal. Circulation to the extremities was intact.

Beyond the heart, the results were similarly clean. Lungs were clear bilaterally, and a CT angiography of the chest showed no abnormalities. A carotid artery ultrasound returned normal results. Thyroid and lymph nodes checked out. The abdominal and genitourinary exams were both normal.

The one minor finding: slight lower leg swelling, which Barbabella noted had improved since last year's exam.

On the neurological front, the area that draws the most political attention, a comprehensive exam demonstrated normal mental status, intact cranial nerves, normal motor strength, sensation, reflexes, gait, and balance. The perfect score on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, a widely used screening tool for cognitive impairment, puts that particular line of questioning to rest as firmly as a standardized test can.

Eyes, ears, and the gunshot scar

The letter covered Trump's sensory health as well. Visual acuity, visual fields, and intraocular pressure all fell within normal limits. A dilated funduscopic exam was normal. Hearing remained intact.

One line in the head, ears, nose, and throat section stood out: "Examination was normal, except for scarring of the right ear consistent with prior gunshot injury." The notation is a quiet reminder of the security threats that have touched the Trump family and the physical mark the president still carries.

Barbabella also noted that Trump's teeth are in "very good condition", a small detail, but one that rounds out the picture of a thorough exam rather than a cursory once-over.

Medications and daily schedule

Trump's current medication list is short: aspirin, Rosuvastatin, and Ezetimibe. The latter two are cholesterol-management drugs, common among men of Trump's age and consistent with a proactive cardiac care plan rather than any acute condition. The aspirin is standard preventive therapy.

Barbabella emphasized that Trump's daily routine itself supports his health. He described a "demanding daily schedule, including multiple high-level meetings, public engagements, and regular physical activity." That framing matters: the physician is not merely saying Trump passed a battery of tests in a clinical setting, but that his real-world performance tracks with the lab results.

Trump's approach to personal health has drawn both curiosity and commentary over the years. Dr. Oz has previously discussed the president's unconventional views on diet and wellness, and the latest exam suggests that whatever Trump is doing, the clinical outcomes speak for themselves.

The fitness question in context

Presidential health has been a live political issue since well before Trump's current term. The country watched the previous administration struggle with questions about cognitive decline, questions that were dismissed, deflected, and denied by staff and allies until the evidence became impossible to ignore. That history makes transparency all the more important.

The White House released Barbabella's letter on a Friday night, a time slot often associated with news dumps designed to minimize coverage. But the substance of the letter is the opposite of something to bury. A perfect cognitive score, a cardiac age 14 years below chronological age, and normal findings across every major system, that is a report a White House would typically want to trumpet, not tuck away.

Whether the timing reflects scheduling logistics or a deliberate communications choice, the content of the letter is unambiguous. Barbabella stated plainly that cognitive and physical performance are "excellent."

The broader Trump orbit has dealt with its own health developments in recent months. Vanessa Trump recently disclosed a breast cancer diagnosis, a reminder that health concerns touch every family regardless of position or politics.

What the letter does, and doesn't, say

Barbabella's summary is thorough by the standards of presidential physicals. It names specific tests, reports specific findings, and offers a clear bottom-line assessment. It does not hedge. It does not qualify the fitness determination with caveats or conditions.

What it does not include is equally worth noting. The letter provides no body weight, no blood pressure reading, and no cholesterol numbers, metrics that previous presidential health summaries have sometimes disclosed. Those omissions do not undermine the letter's conclusions, but they leave gaps that reporters and critics will inevitably probe.

The White House has not released a direct link to the full letter, and the exact dates of the Tuesday physical and Friday release are referenced only in relative terms. Those are minor procedural points, not substantive ones, but precision matters when the subject is presidential health.

Meanwhile, congressional Republicans have been focused on White House infrastructure and security priorities, and the health report adds another data point to the case that the administration is operating from a position of stability.

The bottom line from Walter Reed

Barbabella's letter paints a picture of a president whose body is keeping pace with the job. No obstruction. No abnormalities. No cognitive decline. Normal gait, normal reflexes, normal heart sounds. A cardiac age that would be the envy of many men a decade younger.

The dermatologic testing results were included in the exam battery as well, and the comprehensive neurological workup went well beyond a simple screening. This was not a quick check-up. It was a full-spectrum evaluation at the nation's premier military medical center, conducted by a Navy captain whose professional reputation rides on the accuracy of his findings.

For a political class that spent years insisting fitness questions were off-limits, right up until they weren't, the transparency here is worth acknowledging.

Americans spent the last decade learning what happens when a White House hides the truth about a president's health. This letter, whatever its Friday-night timing, does the opposite. The country is better off when the answer to "Is the president fit?" comes with test results attached.
