ABC reporter apologizes after ‘very touching’ comments of Kirk’s alleged assassin

I have never seen so many people try so hard to make an alleged assassin a caring person.

It has happened twice now, and that is two times too many.

One of them has apologized, but I feel fairly confident in saying that this trend will continue.

Very Touching

When ABC News correspondent Matt Gutman described the texts exchanged between the alleged assassin and his roommate/partner, I was infuriated.

He stated, "But, also, it was very touching in a way that many of us didn't expect. A very intimate portrait into this relationship between the suspect’s roommate and the suspect himself, with him repeatedly calling his roommate, who is transitioning, calling him ‘my love.’ And ‘I want to protect you, my love.'

"So, it was this duality of someone who the attorney said not only jeopardized the life of Charlie Kirk and the crowd, but was doing it in front of children, which is one of the aggravating circumstances of this case. And then, on the other hand, he was, you know, speaking so lovingly about his partner. So a very interesting and … riveting press conference."

I knew where this was going, and I was not wrong.

An Act of Love

First, there was Jimmy Kimmel saying that the alleged assassin was part of MAGA, and if that was not bad enough, CNN contributor Montel Williams grabbed onto that tender moments narrative and ran with it.

Describing what he thought motivated the alleged assassin, he stated, "I don't believe he was motivated politically. I think this was motivated emotionally.

“I think this was a emotionally stunted person who literally – when I say it this way, just hear me — tried to defend his significant other, not trying to defend some ideology.”

Williams worked in military intelligence, so he is no dummy, and he surely knows that writing the word “fascist” on a bullet meant for the target makes this a politically motivated killing, but he was literally trying to get empathy for an alleged murderer simply because it would help the left, in my opinion.

Apology

After Gutman’s comments, there was significant outrage directed at him, and he got the message rather quickly. And I have to think ABC executives warned him to make this right after having already forked over millions to Trump from a defamation suit.

He responded, “Yesterday I tried to underscore the jarring contrast between this cold-blooded assassination of Charlie Kirk — a man who dedicated his life to public dialogue — and the personal, disturbing texts read aloud by the Utah County Attorney at the press conference.

“I deeply regret that my words did not make that clear. But let there be zero doubt here: I unequivocally condemn this horrific crime and the pain it caused Charlie Kirk’s family, those who were forced to witness it at UVU, and the millions of people he inspired.”

You are not writing a movie script, sir; you are reporting the news. So, from now on, how about sticking to the facts and stop trying to interject a narrative that has no place in a story where that “tender” person just put a bullet into a man that ended his life.
