AOC for president rumors picking up more steam
All of a sudden, it is starting to appear that Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), a.k.a. AOC, is the favorite to run on the Democratic ticket.
This all got started with rumors of AOC primarying Senator Schumer (D-N.Y.), but now it has taken on a whole new twist.
Dems Push for Primary Challenge
Schumer is not even up for re-election until 2028, at which point the fiasco over the spending bill will have long been forgotten, but that did not stop Democrats from pushing AOC to take on the Senate Minority Leader.
After the short-term budget bill passed the Senate, only because Schumer backed a procedural vote that would allow the GOP to break the filibuster, the rumors started to fly.
When AOC was asked about challenging Schumer, she stated, “I think what we need right now is a united Senate Democratic Caucus that can stand up for this country and not vote for cloture and not vote for this bill.”
Schumer justified his move, stating, “Under a shutdown, Trump and Elon Musk would have carte blanche to destroy vital government services at a significantly faster rate than they can right now. I believe it is my job to make the best choice for the country, to minimize the harms to the American people, therefore, I will vote to keep the government open and not shut it down.”
AOC Leading Schumer in Polling
After that vote took place, polls started running in a mock election between Schumer and AOC in a primary, and much to my surprise, it was AOC who was on top.
AOC had 55% of the support to a mere 36% for Schumer.
Danielle Deiseroth, executive director of Data for Progress, stated, “This poll really does show that Democrats are united in just wanting to stand up, wanting to fight, wanting to see someone taking a stand for them.”
I will be the first person to admit that I read this wrong, thinking there is no way AOC could get enough support to challenge Schumer, but now AOC may have something much bigger in mind.
Running for President
On Friday night, AOC held a town hall meeting in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York, spending much of it going after Donald Trump.
Among her many rants, she stated, "I don't even want to call them deportations. They are sanctioned kidnappings in many circumstances.
“They do not have carte blanche to enter. If they do want to knock on your door, or knock on anyone's door — including your workplace — you can tell them, ‘Show me a warrant. Show me a judicial warrant.’ And if they don't show you a warrant, you can say they can come back with a warrant. You have the right to turn them away."
She also reportedly pushed the narrative that Trump is going to cut Medicaid. Don’t just brush this challenge off because she has a big personality that the lunatics on the left have fallen in love with. With the party having no clear answer for 2028, AOC may be making her move to run for president, so we are going to have to keep our eye on her to see what she does next.
