Bannon takes plea deal in 'We Build The Wall' scheme co-founded by Brian Kolfage
Steve Bannon, popular podcast host of "Steve Bannon's War Room," and former adviser to President Donald Trump, shocked his listeners and fans this week regarding an ongoing legal matter.
According to Newsmax, Bannon, in a Manhattan courtroom, entered a guilty plea regarding his involvement in the "We Build The Wall" private border wall project that never came to fruition after thousands donated toward the effort.
Bannon was indicted in the matter in 2020, and was later pardoned by Trump in his final hours of his first term.
However, Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg brought new charges against Bannon a year later, and he's finally getting some resolution, though it's probably not exactly what he was hoping for.
What's going on?
The project, which aimed to fund the expenses to build a private border wall at the southern U.S. border, raised millions -- $15 million to be exact, but it's how the money was spent that turned into a criminal matter.
Bannon was accused of using hundreds of thousands of dollars from the project for personal expenses. He reportedly received about $1 million from the scheme.
Newsmax noted:
Bannon, 71, was charged by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office with money laundering and conspiracy for allegedly deceiving donors in 2019 who contributed more than $15 million to a private fundraising drive, known as "We Build the Wall," during Trump's first term in the White House.
It was noted that Bannon had previously pleaded not guilty in the matter, but after several discussions with his lawyers, obviously changed his mind.
The plea deal allows him to avoid prison time, but bans him from "fundraising or serving in a leadership or fiduciary position for charitable organization in New York state," The Hill reported.

Social media reacts
Upon leaving the courthouse, Bannon called on U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate Alvin Bragg, New York AG Letitia James and other anti-Trump prosecutors.
"Pam, get to work! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH American people are ready for justice!" one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, "Steve Bannon is sounding an alarm that must be answered! No excuses!"
Only time will tell if Bondi goes that route. If she does, there will undoubtedly be political fireworks.
