Beto O’Rourke seems ready to run for office again

I can think of no other politician who has been a bigger failure than Beto O’Rourke. He has ventured out of his safe space three times to take on other Texans and the presidency, and he has failed every time.

The eternal candidate is now apparently looking to take one more shot, ready to face off against Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) in the upcoming election.

Lost to Ted Cruz

O’Rourke had gone after a Senate seat before, and while he had his 15 minutes, he eventually went down.

For a bit, the race between O’Rourke and Senator Cruz (R-TX) was close, but when it came time to count the votes, Cruz took the seat, beating O’Rourke 50.9% to 48.3%.

It all came down to the border for Texans, with one voter stating, “I don’t want open borders. I think there should be the right way to come into a country and the wrong way. I like his enthusiasm, but I thinking he’s missing some points. The border is a real issue for me.”

It was only close because Cruz is not well-liked, and he had just come off an ugly battle with Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential race. Even so, and with a ton of money behind him, O’Rourke failed.

Take on the Governor

After failing to beat Cruz, O’Rourke decided to take on Governor Greg Abbott, but he failed again.

O’Rourke pushed the same agenda he pushed against Cruz, but this was not Cruz, as he was up against a very popular conservative governor.

When the votes were cast, Abbott beat him by 11%, a solid victory, and the beginning of the end of O'Rourke's political career.

O’Rourke gave it one more try, entering the 2020 presidential primary race, but he never gained steam and was out of the race in November 2019.

One More Time

Cornyn is very much like Cruz in that he is not well-liked in the party, or even among Texans, but he has never really faced any stiff competition, although that may change.

Attorney General Ken Paxton is going to take Cornyn on in the primary, so this is going to be an expensive primary race to see who comes out on the other side. In my opinion, neither of these men are really good candidates, but I don’t see how O’Rourke could get enough support to defeat either of them right now.

With the problems in the GOP, O’Rourke sees another opportunity, and when asked if he would be running for Senator in 2026, he stated, “If it comes to pass that this is what the people of Texas want, that it’s the highest and best use of what I can give to you, then yes, I will.” He later added, “We’ll see what the future holds, but I’m going to do whatever is the greatest good for the greatest number in this state.”

Regardless of who comes out on the other side of the GOP primary, I don’t see O’Rourke getting enough support, especially with Trump having the border under control right now. Everyone in Texas got a really good look of what it was like with a Democrat in charge, and I think they realize that even if they don’t like the names on the ticket, the state is far better off with them rather than someone with a “D” after their name.
