Biden Commutation of Death Row Inmates Faces Backlash

Many in the nation were stunned this week when Joe Biden announced a sentence commutation for 37 of the 40 death row inmates.

Families of the victims, law enforcement, and prosecutors were livid that Biden took them off death row with the swipe of a pen.

Commuting Their Sentences

Some of the people given a commutation by Biden are among the most notorious murderers this country has ever seen.

Biden only left three of the 40 alone, most likely because their crimes were the most publicized, including the Boston Marathon Bomber.

In announcing the commutations, Biden stated, "Make no mistake: I condemn these murderers, grieve for the victims of their despicable acts, and ache for all the families who have suffered unimaginable and irreparable loss.

"I am more convinced than ever that we must stop the use of the death penalty at the federal level."

Explain It!

Family members of some of the victims of these killers were outraged that Biden decided to do this, especially right before the Christmas holiday.

Alex Snell, whose sister was strangled to death by one of these men at the age of 20, stated, “I’d rather see it go back to the way it was, where he was sentenced to death.” He added, “What justification does [Biden] have for doing this? I want to have him explain to us, to our faces, why he chose to give them mercy when they didn’t give other people mercy.”

The man who killed Snell, Jorge Avila-Torrez, also murdered and sexually assaulted two young girls, Laura Hobbs, 8, and Krystal Tobias, 9.

This man is the very definition of a monster, yet Biden let him off the hook.

The Outrage

The pushback by law enforcement and Republicans was instant, with Brian Steel, president of the Columbus chapter of the FOP, stating, “The decision to commute the sentence of Daryl Lawrence is an inexcusable affront to the memory of Officer Bryan Hurst and the law enforcement community as a whole.

“Bryan made the ultimate sacrifice, and this decision undermines the justice that was rightfully served for his murder. We owe it to Bryan and to all officers who put their lives on the line every day to continue advocating for justice.”

Trump spokesman Steven Cheung added, “These are among the worst killers in the world and this abhorrent decision by Joe Biden is a slap in the face to the victims, their families, and their loved ones.”

I am speechless that this was even a consideration for Biden, but now the American people are truly seeing what the Democrat Party is all about, and it surely is not about protecting and standing for law-abiding citizens in this country.
