Biden left the race after Pelosi ultimatum: ‘they could do this the easy way or the hard way’

News of the nation's president removing himself from the race caused a number of questions, including why the campaign was, particularly considering the recent pledges of support for President Joe Biden.

But according to recent sources, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) allegedly issued a challenge to President Joe Biden: either step down from the presidential run "the easy way or the hard way," according to Breitbart News.

According to Politico, the former Speaker and top Democrat powerbroker finally spoke out after weeks of Biden publicly pledging to continue campaigning despite the significant fallout from his disastrous debate performance on June 27.

The Announcements

Biden announced on Monday that he would step aside as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee for 2024.

“Nancy made clear that they could do this the easy way or the hard way,” a Democrat source, who spoke anonymously and was familiar with the conversations, told the outlet.

“She gave them three weeks of the easy way. It was about to be the hard way.”

If the outlet is to be believed, the "hard way" would have entailed Pelosi bringing into the public discourse what had previously been private efforts that she had participated in to convince Biden to withdraw from the race.

The Threat

According to reports, this posed the risk of making public the results of internal surveys conducted by the Biden campaign completed the previous week.

These polls revealed that he was trailing in every state that was considered a battleground, and he was also in danger in other states that Democrats rely on for the presidential election, such as New Mexico and Virginia.

In a crucial meeting with two of the president's aides, Steve Ricchetti and Mike Donilon, which took place on Saturday, these damning internal surveys were given to the president.

More from the Exclusive Report

Evidently, these surveys had a role in Biden's decision. According to Politico on Sunday, "In addition to presenting new concerns from lawmakers and updates on a fundraising operation that had slowed considerably, they carried the campaign’s own polls, which came back this week and showed his path to victory in November was gone, according to five people familiar with the matter, who, like others interviewed for this article, were granted anonymity to discuss private conversations. Biden asked several questions during the exchange.

The only other people with Biden in the residence when he arose Sunday were first lady Jill Biden and two other trusted aides: deputy chief of staff Annie Tomasini and assistant to the first lady Anthony Bernal. At 1:45 p.m., he notified a somewhat larger group of close aides that he had decided the night before to end his quest for another term, reading his letter and thanking them for their service.

A minute later, before any other campaign and White House staffers could be notified, he posted the historic letter from his campaign account on the social media site X.
