In a significant pre-Christmas decision, President Joe Biden commuted the death sentences of dozens of inmates, leaving only three high-profile criminals on federal death row.

The sweeping clemency has stirred profound distress among the victims' families, including Alex Snell, whose sister's murderer was one of those spared, the New York Post reported.

"But guided by my conscience and my experience as a public defender, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Vice President, and now President, I am more convinced than ever that we must stop the use of the death penalty at the federal level," explained Biden.

He emphasized his condemnation of the crimes and his empathy for the victims, stating, “Make no mistake: I condemn these murderers, grieve for the victims of their despicable acts, and ache for all the families who have suffered unimaginable and irreparable loss.”
