Biden’s ICE Director Comes Clean on Immigration Issues
Four years... that is how long it took for someone in the Biden administration to admit they got it wrong.
Biden’s Acting Ice Director, Patrick Lechleitner, just admitted that the administration could have done more to prevent so many illegal crossings.
Biden by the Numbers
When you look at the numbers from when Trump was in office to now, they are rather shocking.
In rough estimates, there were about 2.4 million illegal crossings when Trump was in office, but the numbers during his last two years were far better, showing that Trump had finally gotten the border under control.
Conservative estimates on illegal crossings since Biden has been in office are nearly nine million, more than three times what crossed when Trump was in office, and that number is likely much higher.
Keep in mind, that the number for Biden does not include people who have gotten away, which is likely several million more. As of 2022, the Department of Homeland Security stated that we had 11 million illegals living in this country. That number today is likely close to double that.
Mayorkas Extends Deportation Shield for Migrants
As I write this report, Joe Biden has 10 days left in office, and he is making the most of it
On Friday, Secretary Mayorkas announced that the administration was going to extend deportation protection for hundreds of thousands of migrants currently living in the United States.
DHS announced that it was extending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for migrants from El Salvador, Venezuela, Sudan, and Ukraine for an additional 18 months. This move is fully supported and came at the urging of congressional Democrats, with Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) stating, "We write now because the window to secure and finalize your administration’s policies is closing rapidly.
“We urge you to act decisively between now and the inauguration of the President-elect to complete the important work of the past four years and protect immigrant families.”
ICE Director Comes Clean
Lechleitner has been the acting director of ICE since July 2023, and his time at this post comes to a screeching halt in 10 days.
Sadly, he waited until now to voice his displeasure at the administration for its handling of the border situation. He stated, “It’s unfortunate because I think we could have done more.
“We could have put more resources to it, either at [Customs and Border Protection], for the border itself, and with ICE. And we could have went and tried to get more of these individuals in the non-detained docket.”
Lechleitner went on to say how frustrated some ICE and DHS staffers were that they were not doing more to detain and deport illegals. Can you imagine if this information had come out before the election? This administration will not be judged kindly by history.
