Blinken Admits Pressure on Israel Emboldened Hamas
Since the Israel war with Hamas has been going on, Democrats, including this administration, have pressured Israel for a ceasefire.
Dems were criticized for this approach, insisting this was not hurting Israel during negotiations, but Secretary of State Anton Blinken just flipped that narrative.
Dems Pressure Israel
That war between Israel and Hamas had only been about a month old when congressional Democrats started to pressure Israel to call for a ceasefire.
For instance, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) stated, “You’ve got to have a pause in the bombing. You’ve got to take care of the immediate disaster. Israel’s got to change its strategy.
“I don’t know how you can have a cease-fire — permanent cease-fire — with an organization like Hamas, which is dedicated to turmoil and chaos and destroying the state of Israel.”
Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) added, “Mr. President, the American people are not with you on this one.”
Biden Caves to Pressure
Biden held out for a little bit, but when the progressives in the party really started to apply pressure, Biden started to fold.
It became painfully clear to Biden during the primary race that not pressuring Israel could cost him the Muslim vote and support from the uber-progressives in the party, so he folded and started to try to squeeze Israel to call for a ceasefire.
At one point, Biden flat-out forbade Israel to go into Rafah, stating, “If they go into Rafah, I’m not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities, that deal with that problem.”
Conservatives were hammering the administration, stating they were giving Hamas the edge because Hamas knew the United States wanted the ceasefire, which we all believed was only emboldening Hamas.
Blinken Shock Admission
While we were all warning the Dems that they were giving an advantage to Hamas, they insisted that was not the case. The entire administration held that narrative until recently.
This weekend, Blinken actually flipped, in part, stating, “I think the question we had was: How can we most effectively both shape the conflict but also bring – bring an end to the conflict?
“And the focus on getting a ceasefire/hostage agreement was what was in our estimation the quickest and most durable way to get an end. And as I said, Hamas – one – when they saw Israel under pressure publicly, they pulled back.”
The fact of the matter is that if the United States had allowed Israel to go full bore from the outset, this war would be over and Hamas would have been eradicated. Instead, Hamas is still playing hardball, but I fully expect that to end when Trump gets into office. Not only that, but Hamas' allies are now doing the dirty work, continuing to attack Israel. This is yet another complete and utter failure by the Biden administration.
