Bondi swears in Alina Habba as U.S. Attorney for New Jersey

When I look at Trump’s nominations, I am probably about 50-50 in supporting them and questioning them, and he has made another one that falls into that latter category.

Trump named Alina Habba the acting US Attorney for New Jersey, and she was sworn in on Friday, sending a shockwave through the state of New Jersey and its liberals.

Bragging About Losing

The reason I question this appointment is that Habba did not do a very good job representing Donald Trump in some of his cases.

I am not sure anyone would have won when you look at the judges Trump drew, but Habba’s losses were about far more than a bad judge.

In my opinion, she was often unprepared, sometimes filing sloppy or improper motions, and just seemed as though she got her law degree from the back of a cereal box.

During a rally, Habba was bragging about being sanctioned for having filed frivolous suits on Trump’s behalf, to which Mark S. Zaid, a Washington attorney, responded, "This is very strange. Apparently she wants publicity about how unethical a lawyer she is. It is incredibly hard to be sanctioned under Rule 11. It actually takes work!"

Trump Picks Habba

I fully expected Trump to add Habba to his administration, but I never expected him to hand her the keys to a legitimate and high-profile office within the DOJ.

Last week, Trump did just that, naming Habba as the top DOJ official in New Jersey.

After the nomination, Habba took a victory lap, stating, "As you know, I stood by President Trump, his family, the organization, and many other clients in that state where I am born and raised, and [where] I'm raising my babies now.

"But there is corruption. There is injustice, and there is a heavy amount of crime right in Cory Booker's backyard. And right under Governor Murphy. And that will stop."

Sworn In

On Friday, Habba was officially sworn into office, with Trump surprising her by showing up at her swearing-in ceremony with Pam Bondi.

Trump stated, “Alina will take on the violence and the law breaking in Newark, however, and Camden and all parts of New Jersey, and she’ll be as good as it gets because there’s a lot of bad things happening there too.”

Habba added, “I would not be standing here today if it was not for the man to my right… As a person who’s a first generation American with parents that came in legally, I would like to say that I do not ever, ever take for granted that every dream that I ever could have imagined I have surpassed because of this administration, because of President Trump.”

I think Habba made herself look like a fool when she was representing Trump, so I hope she does a better job as the top DOJ official in New Jersey. Needless to say, I don’t have very high hopes for this one.
